September reads. I needed something light and fun to breeze through. Score and The Missed Connection I read in a matter of days. And because I got to pre screen the new Children of Blood & Bone film coming out next January I figured I reread that for accuracy and a reminder. It was pretty close to the book minus one or two things.

AUGUST is the month that them Leos do the most, right? And yes, these studio portraits by @wendy_c_photo are not helping my case. But how else am I going to highlight these dope Black Women Businesses ...duh.😉

Meanwhile, I spent most of this summer just trying to convince my friends I’m not an enigma and MIA, but I’m actually in New York.

I really wanted a birthday month of simple pleasures and I used good ol’ New York City as my playground. Besides, who needs an elaborate birthday trip when you’re living through the greatest NYC summer in recent history? Source: me.

I appreciated the occasional check-in from friends to confirm my whereabouts so I could say, “I’M HERE! Come kickback in the park with me...in the rain lol.” And wouldn’t you know it, they pulled up and sat right in the rain with me. Thank you friends. 🥹

I guess I can’t ghost them now. Lol

I said goodbye to a creative being who so eloquently knew how to capture the essence of Black joy through imagery.

Also while enjoying my rent this summer, I turned up on an island...Governors Island. Took up residency at the pool and went to a show or two. Maximized local resources, because we got things at home! (Though, quiet as it’s kept, I am LONG overdue for an international twirl...my passport is starting to feel neglected.)

Anyway, despite past evidence...and probably future incrimination to the contrary, I’m actually in New York...until I’m not.

Only @elonjade, crowned Curator of Vibes, Mother of Fêtes, from House of Fits, could gather a group of 30+ cultured cool @$$ people to celebrate not only her, but her entire Taurus tribe of friends and family across three countries… St. Maarten, St. Barth’s, and Anguilla.

A weekend filled with beautiful people, endless laughter, questionable sleep schedules, and enough scenery to make you reconsider your entire life plan lol.

Still trying to figure out how I’m supposed to capsulate an unforgettable weekend in under 90 seconds, but here you go… by @kaliflower1

APRIL | Patience…

Three African countries. A growing nephew. One Jellicle Ball and two galas. April was spent moving between the people and places that bring me the most joy, peace, and perspective.

Ghana, South Africa, and the quiet beauty of Namibia reminded me daily just how blessed and grateful I am.

I’ve questioned my purpose often, but one thing I know for certain is that my greatest love language is the effort I put in showing up and being present for my people, while also trying to extend that same patience and grace to myself in a world that rarely slows down and constantly pulls from our mental energy.

I’m still learning how to move at my own pace and share space personally and virtually, when I truly have the capacity and mind frame to do so. ❤️

2025 | Thankful for everyone who poured into me this year 💐

By no means was it a perfect year, despite what IG might suggest, but I absolutely tried to follow the vibes and choose joy when I could. I did what I wanted, when I wanted, with the people who felt right around me.

Grateful for that community. As always, wishing everyone the audacity to live life on their own terms, good health, abundance, and joy.

A night at the opera 🎭

I’ve got about one four hour opera window in me each year, so when I show up it has to be a classic. Porgy and Bess at the @metopera did not disappoint. Immaculate voices, a powerful performance, and the real icing on the cake was seeing a cast of over 60 people fill that stage who look like me.

To my favorite theater date, Ray, thank you for accompanying me, friend 🤗

This is my favorite show! ✨🥰🌍

The one where a group of bright eyed adventurous kids set off for Tanzania and immediately fall prey to a world class scammer. Armed with quick wit, amateur detective skills, and a healthy dose of petty revenge, they turn their trauma bond into a lifelong friendship pact where they now plan their own trips and travel the world together on purpose, drama free and passport ready.

This season features a London to Marrakesh turn up two years later to celebrate the union of Jo and Michael, with a real life fairytale wedding that has you looking around like, wait… is this real? Are we actually in a Lifetime movie right now? But in all seriousness A TIME WAS HAD, and this is all I can remember from November lol. Thank you @j0gunleye and @nottochukwu ❤️

Lately…
Some highlights from the past few months. My friend married her forever person. My mom pulled up and we did my favorite artsy ritual, wandering a museum like we own the place. Seydou Keïta’s show at the Brooklyn Museum is goooood. Hank Willis Thomas exhibition gave me chills. Saw Doechii live and it was everything it was supposed to be, she did not disappoint. Met the amazing artist and now friend in my head Danielle McKinney, then casually hopped over to London to catch her show on its final day because why not. While I was there I was completely floored by how grand the Kerry James Marshall show was, beautiful. Learned how to play mahjong with total strangers and won on my first try because playing competitive games is my ministry. And somehow, in between all the creative inspiration, I found a few people to make me smile.
