Currently Reading: The Once and Future Witches by Alix E. Harrow!

I’ll be visiting @gibsonsbookstorenh next week to meet her! If you’re around the bookstore and want to see her too, make sure you RSVP on their website 🌟

The Everlasting was an incredible book where I cherish more than love it because the writing is unmatched. I’ve never read a book more exquisitely written. I’m hoping I feel the same about my current read.

Tell me what you’ve been reading that’s been great because I need to figure out what I read after this!

Currently Reading Main Characters by Bobby Palmer!

A story about two people falling in love told by everyone but the two of them. Parents, friends, passerbys all have input and observations to share in this novel releasing in June! There’s a YA book with the same kind of concept which I attempted to read a bit ago, but it didn’t hook me because it was very outdated with the language and came off a bit tacky.

What I prefer with this book is that it’s very realistic and mature (which makes sense since it’s written for adults). This novel is for the people-watchers and the observants. I’m all for this one!

Reading Update:

I finished The Free-Verse Society by Delali Adjoa and adored it! It definitely met my expectations

Shoutout to This Place Kills Me by Mariko Tamaki, Illustrated by Nicole Goux. Life is Strange fans will love this murder mystery graphic novel set at a boarding school for girls

Adventure is Out There by Liz Braswell is the latest in the Twisted Tale series. I read nearly all 500 pages in one day, but it wasn’t as great as I hoped it would be.

Now, I’m reading Lucky Day by Chuck Tingle and I’m obsessed, but not the Low Probability Day falling on my birthday 🫢

Also, spot my latest thrift find in the photo!

🦢 The Swan’s Daughter by Roshani Chokshi 🦢

Think if you took the concept of The Bachelor and made it a whimsical fantasy book.

A fairy tale that feels like it was written ages ago and was passed down through generations. Its setting is bursting with imagination from the kingdoms to the food.

I love the name of our main character, Demelza, because it reminds me of Poldark. She’s such a strong-willed character with that touch of youthful obliviousness that doesn’t feel like a nuisance to read about. Prince Aeris and his trials to find a wife that won’t murder him were such a joy to read and I enjoyed getting to know his character. It was very teenage boy while also not feeling like he’d end up as a toxic man in his adulthood because he was showing the young women respect.

The royal family and Demelza’s family are so layered and complex with their flaws and quirks. I loved getting to know both sets of parents and their dynamics because they were both extremely toxic where one is murderous and the other holds power over his wife and children’s magic, but also balanced out so well with the humor and love that both families have for each other.

I wasn’t really invested in the romance as much because I was so engaged in the character’s themselves and how each one interacted with the other versus the actual romance developing, but I enjoyed this book so much and think it’s such an easy read to digest without feeling overwhelmed by world building and fantastical politics.
