Kamaal Thewan spoke to Shirley Heavens about what Gestation means to her, and this is what she had to say about it: “ I think of new music like what it would be to manifest children from the spirit realm to their natural state. Enigmatic, exciting, and terrifying. I’ve always wanted to make music with Kagiso, and I asked him to send me a beat. He said no! I was taken aback; he had said, ‘I want us to work together’. He then said, ‘Sing me a melody, and I’ll work the beat around your voice.’He was giving me creative freedom, so he could build around my voice. I had grown complacent with being an additional member in collaborative efforts, and I stopped seeing myself as a contributor.I had been trying to find more creative ways to partner and bake, a musical baby that was not only a bucket list effort but also a moment to be challenged, beautifully, by building something different and new.” by @kamaalthewanza
