La Dama
.
Thank you @chicanoelegance @thrifs_ @vadiostar @rancholosfonseca and @kamillion1087 for this shoot. This was such a beautiful way to honor my culture. It unlocked memories that I'd forgotten for the sake of survival and brought me closer to my roots. I've always been Mexican-American, but the Mexican part of me never really got the chance to shine. It was not seen as part of an "educated" person. Most tend to see us Latinos as laborers or maids, but we are also artists, lawyers, doctors, musicians, engineers, designers, cybersecurity, business owners; the full spectrum of humanity.
.
If you haven't gotten your tickets for the Chicano Elegance Gala yet, you still can. It's a space to meet and have fun with others who form a part of this beautiful community. It's an opportunity to openly and fully embrace our roots, and celebrate who we are. Hope to see you there!

En el rancho with the little cows and goats 🖤
I remember growing up, my dad used to take me and the family to a little local ranch to get fresh milk every Saturday morning. It was a little ritual that kept us in touch with our roots and who we are. I always enjoyed seeing all the farm animals and enjoying the milk with some powered chocolate and take home queso de panela o de chivo. It was one of the things that helped me feel connected to my culture and Mother Nature. My dad used to tell us that was a glimpse into everyday life for him back in México. Thank you @rancholosfonseca @chicanoelegance @thrifs_ and @kamillion1087 for unlocking these glimmers, pieces of core memories, from my childhood.

With the @cadillac 🖤
This is kind of a full circle moment. I used to work with the Cadillac of Beverly Hills store helping them become the best store in the US from the moment it opened until I left. To me, this symbolizes not just elegance, but excellence. It was never good enough to be good. I needed to be excellent, but now I'm learning to take the risk and just do it, as imperfect as it may be. Shout out to @kamillion1087 for taking this perfect shot. Thank you to @thrifs_ for giving me this opportunity for the @chicanoelegance foundation and thank you @rancholosfonseca for hosting. Thank you @vadiostar for the behind the scenes captures. Thank you everyone for creating a space where we can be safe to demonstrate we also belong in luxe spaces while maintaining our culture. We belong because we exist, and therefore it is.

A huge thank you to @chicanoelegance for this opportunity, to @rancholosfonseca for hosting us, and to @kamillion1087 for the amazing shots! I keep being awed by @thrifs_ resilience to create and keep a safe space for our Latino community despite everything going on right now. I love how she's redefining "la raza" into something more unifying for all of us brown folk. As a Mexican-American, knowing that term was exclusive to us Mexicans, using it to bring all of our Latino sisters and brothers together is something I applaud and appreciate. There's nothing more beautiful than unity in our diversity. Thank you to the wonderful women who also helped bring this vision to life @mami_chapina @_lapao310 @kissyslooks

More to come! 😁
