Kami Parlin is a junior at Kentucky Wesleyan. The 5-foot-8 outside hitter from Michigan has 135 kills and 156 digs over her career. She outlined her journey in this Digging Dish.
“My town had a league for young girls to get them into playing,” she said. “I started playing volleyball when I was around 6 or 7 years old.”
She is a versatile player.
“I’ve always been rotated between outside hitter, middle blocker and opposite hitter,” she said. “I spent the majority of my high school career as a middle blocker.”
Her college sport of choice changed.
“Originally, I’ve always wanted to play college softball and once I got older, I also wanted to play volleyball in college,” she said.
She enjoys the fast pace and competitive nature of the sport.
“I love how fast paced and competitive the game is,” she said. “Also, every play isn’t about strength, there is also a lot of strategy in the game.”
Her teammates make it enjoyable.
“I love my teammates so much and I really enjoy playing next to them,” she said.
She is always working to improve.
“I do regular weight training and hitting/passing reps at my old high school,” she said.
She offered words of wisdom.
“Always bet on yourself and work hard for the things you want,” she said. “It’s never too late to start playing volleyball or any sport.” by @kamiparlin
