For the last nine years our family has entered the halls of Nadine Johnson elementary school in some form or fashion — whether it was as a student, a parent, PTA member, or even for me specifically an employee. We have walked these halls many times, we have created memories and built community, and this has been home. But tomorrow begins a brand new chapter not just for my kids, but for me too. I officially step into a new role as an instructional aide at Kerley Elementary School (just a hop and a skip across the way). And while I am excited for what’s to come, ready for a new group of students and community, I can’t help but sit here tonight reminiscing and being grateful for these last 9 years. My kids have grown up in these classrooms. They have built friendships, learned lessons, made memories and left their mark. I have grown myself as a mom, as a woman, as a person through all of the time spent with this community. These people have been the faces I see weekly, they have made me laugh, taught me new things, supported me and been comfort for me in hard seasons (especially this year)❤️ — and I’m beyond grateful for the opportunity I’ve had to be a part of such a wonderful campus all of these years. And so to all of my NJES people thank you for all of your investment in my children and in me over these years. You truly are gold and I wouldn’t be who I am today without you. You know I’m taking you with me all in spirit as I get to go love on new faces. And to all of my NJES families and every student I had the blessing of coaching/subbing, thank you for all the joy you brought into my life. Thank you parents for allowing me to be a small part of your kid’s lives! I know it’s not goodbye because of course we are very much still a part of Hippo Nation, but it definitely is bittersweet knowing that the Wolfe Pack chapter here has closed. Here’s to a grateful heart for all that led me here. Here’s to a new chapter for our family, a new adventure and a new community I get to be a part of!!! Sitting at the salon waiting for my daughter’s hair to be done seems like a great place to get my planner set up for school to begin next week. This year I’m trying an undated planner — this way I can start fresh from today instead of wasting pages and skip a month or week if needed (though with our schedule that most likely won’t happen but love the option). And love the creativity of making it my own and what works for our lifestyle. And who doesn’t love a brand new planner? Just something about the clean pages that are ready to be filled up with all the things to do, plans and memories!! We are entering a new season - one that’s filled with both joy and sorrow - but nonetheless filled with gratefulness! I can’t wait to write in the football games, dance events, fall fun, holidays and more!! Making our house a home is one of my favorite things to do. It’s not always a fast process, but it’s a journey that I truly enjoy. And I especially love creating new spaces when we enter new seasons of life. There is just something about a new space that refreshes and renews. This is just one of those spaces I’ve been working on this summer. It’s the new center of our home — bringing together the past and present, things we love and cherish, things that represent our family, things that fill our home with joy in every season and remind us of all we have to be grateful for daily. This season has held some of the deepest heartbreak our family has ever known with the loss of my dad. It has changed us forever. It’s not the same without him, but we know he is with us in spirit because of the love we had the blessing of sharing for so many years. ❤️ This season has also reminded me that even in grief, God is still good and still faithful. It’s not easy, but we’re learning to hold both sadness and gratitude at the same time—missing him deeply while choosing to embrace the blessings God has placed in front of us: time together, laughter, slower moments, and the memories we’re still making. Grief doesn’t erase joy & gratitude, and joy & gratitude don’t erase grief. Somehow, they can exist at the same time. I know my dad would want us to keep making memories, keep laughing, and keep showing up for one another. We’ll carry him with us wherever we go.
