Process of making KAP belt crushed by @robinmiro_ by @kap_company
Telephone card, Japan. Advertising card for “Suimasen” non-smoker insurance, Daihyaku Mutual Life Insurance, late 1990s. "Low Risk & Low Cost" The card advertised a policy offering lower premiums to non-smokers. Its name was a pun: “すいません” (suimasen), a colloquial Japanese way of saying “excuse me”, sounds identical to “吸いません” (suimasen), meaning “I don’t smoke”. The insurer presented the policy as a first in Japan and a careful bet on low risk. Daihyaku Life did not last long enough to see it pay off. On 31 May 2000, its board voted to give up the business, and by that afternoon the government had ordered it to suspend part of its operations. by @kap_company

Patent illustration, FIG. 1A. Media playback system distributed in a house, Sonos, Inc. Recurring figure used across numerous Sonos U.S. patents, published from the early 2020s onward. Sonos filed one of its first patent applications in 2003, for synchronising audio across several networked devices, and began selling its first systems in 2005. This drawing shows that idea fully built out, with fourteen speakers spread through the nine rooms of one imaginary home, including one beside the bathtub and one on the patio. Grouping speakers room by room later became the centre of a long legal fight with Google. Sonos had filed for the idea in 2006 but only presented the disputed claims in 2019, years after Google showed Sonos its own plans when the two considered working together in 2014. A jury found Google had infringed in 2023 and set damages at $2.30 per speaker, $32.5 million in total. The trial judge threw the verdict out, saying Sonos had waited too long, before an appeals court reinstated it. by @kap_company
