What does it take to prepare students to shape AI, not just use it? Here's a look back at Investing in Ethical #CS & #AI Education during @oaklandtechweek.

Led by Kirsten Lundgren of the #KaporFoundation, with co-hosts @oaklandedfund and @nuoakland, this forum brought together leaders from education, policy research, and philanthropy to discuss where #ComputerScience and AI #education in #California are headed, and what it will take to get there equitably.

Thank you to our speakers for sharing their insight and experience:

Allison Scott, Ph.D., Kapor Foundation
Alix Gallagher, @stanford
Jennifer Ahn, @leadbylearning_
Sam Berg, @ousdnews
Cindy Lora, @smash_program

We look forward to continuing to spotlight the promising work in #Oakland that equips students and educators with the knowledge and agency to become critical consumers and ethical producers of AI and #technology. Thank you again to everyone who joined us!

This is what it looks like when #Oakland comes together to shape the future of #tech!

On Monday, we officially kicked off the second annual @oaklandtechweek at the @kaporcenter alongside our partners @hiiiwav, @oakland, and @nuoakland! We were honored to be joined by an incredible lineup of speakers:

@mayorbarbaralee, City of Oakland
Alexandria Medina, @oaklandedfund
Dr. Allison Scott, Kapor Foundation
Ashleigh Kanat, City of Oakland
@boskokante, HiiiWAV
@carrie_valdee, Northeastern University Oakland
Councilmember @carroll_fife, City of Oakland
@chikeaguh, Kapor Center
@theericajoy, City of Oakland
Dr. Freada Kapor Klein, Kapor Center
@lilsdaexplorer, Kapor Foundation
Lisa D. Cook, Federal Reserve Board
Mitch Kapor, Kapor Center
@nateiiii, Kapor Center

Responsible innovation means building technology with communities, not on top of them. As AI reshapes our economy, our schools, and our city services, the big question is who gets to shape it, and who benefits. Leaders from government, philanthropy, education, investment, and the community came together to connect national AI trends to real action in Oakland.

The Kapor Kickoff today was nothing short of extraordinary! ✨

The room was filled with founders, ecosystem builders, community leaders, and technologists all aligned on one standard: building with communities, not on top of them.

A special thank you to Mayor Barbara Lee for joining us, anchoring the room with her leadership, and reminding us just how impactful this vision is for the economic and cultural future of our Town.

Immense gratitude to Lili Gangas for being so instrumental in driving tech equity forward and championing this movement at every step. Last but not least, to our partners at the Kapor Foundation, thank you for your unwavering commitment and endless support in making Oakland a beacon for inclusive innovation.

The week is just getting started, and the momentum is undeniable!

Clear your calendar. Oakland Tech Week 2026 is taking over the Town.

From September 27 to October 3, we’re bringing together founders, creators, and technologists to redefine what innovation looks like when it’s rooted in culture and equity. Across the Kapor Foundation, Northeastern University Oakland, HiiiWAV, The City of Oakland, and spaces citywide, this is where real community happens.

Building with communities, not on top of them. That is the heartbeat of #OTW26.

The official schedule goes live on September 1.

We brought #ResponsibleAI to #MarthasVineyard across two evenings of conversation.

We teamed up with #SiegelFamilyEndowment and #OmidyarNetwork to discuss AI's influence on #education, labor, democracy, and civil rights.

Dr. Kamau Bobb of Georgia Institute of Technology previewed his upcoming book, "The Bullwhip's Algorithm: Artificial Intelligence and America's Racial Caste System," and how #AI is
changing the structure of American #education.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us! by @kaporfoundation

Last week, #KaporFoundation CEO Allison Scott, Ph.D., joined Katy Knight, President and Executive Director of #SiegelFamilyEndowment, and Michele L. Jawando, CEO of #OmidyarNetwork, for @culturebanx's Reimagining Our Tech Agency in #MarthasVineyard — a gathering of investors, founders, cultural influencers, philanthropists, and policy leaders to discuss who gets to shape the next era of #AI.

Conversations like this push us to keep building toward a #ResponsibleAI future grounded in how capital is actually deployed, who benefits from long-term, sustained wealth, and how we can continue working toward creating a more equitable tech future for all. by @kaporfoundation
