Posting a courthouse every day! Courthouse #47: Bastrop County, Bastrop, Texas Bastrop sits roughly 30 miles southeast of Austin. The Colorado River of Texas flows through the city, as it did for the last 2 entries. Like what you see? Follow for more 🔥🔥🔥 by @kappageography
Posting a courthouse every day! Courthouse #46: Fayette County, La Grange, Texas We took TX-71 (a state highway) to Austin, and the small town of La Grange was one of our stops. Like Columbus previously, it lies along the Colorado River in Texas. Like what you see? Follow for more 🔥🔥🔥 by @kappageography
Posting a courthouse every day! Courthouse #45: Colorado County, Columbus, Texas Many people know about the Colorado River that runs through the southwest desert and created the Grand Canyon, but fewer know about the smaller Colorado River that runs exclusively in Texas and drains into the Gulf of Mexico. The river runs straight through Colorado County and its seat of Columbus. Like what you see? Follow for more 🔥🔥🔥 by @kappageography

Posting a courthouse every day! Courthouse #46: Fort Bend County, Richmond, Texas Fort Bend County is the most populous suburban county of Houston. Much of its growth is in its northeastern border communities, such as Sugar Land. It is one of the fastest growing counties in the entire country due to spilling suburban growth from Houston. The name “Fort Bend” comes from a fort built on a bend of the Brazos River in 1822. It grew in significance as an ideal location to ford (cross) the Brazos, and served as a defensive position during the Mexican-American war. Today it is a part of the city of Richmond. Posting a courthouse every day! Courthouse #43: Harris County, Houston, Texas Houston is the largest city by population and land area in Texas, and Harris County is by far the largest county by population in the state, with over 5 million residents. Court services in the county grew to the point where two separate skyscrapers had to be constructed. The old courthouse, built in 1910, is part of Houston’s greater courts district and still holds some functionality if I remember correctly. I have a picture of Houston’s skyline coming into view from I-45 north in my dashcam footage somewhere, will get that sorted out eventually. Like what you see? Follow for more 🔥🔥🔥 by @kappageography
Posting a courthouse every day! Courthouse #42: Galveston County, Galveston, Texas The City of Galveston is located entirely on a coastal barrier island about 55 miles southeast of Houston. Now a popular Texas tourist destination (Although the beach here is quite dirty), Galveston used to be the capital of Texas and the state’s major port city. In 1910, a hurricane swept through the city, the resulting storm surge taking the lives of over 10,000 residents. This has been the deadliest natural disaster in US history as of date, and led to port activity being relocated further inland to the city of Houston. The Galveston historic pleasure pier is depicted in today’s third photo, a large wooden pier containing several amusement rides and probably the most prominent feature of the city today. Posting a courthouse every day! Courthouse #41: Chambers County, Anahuac, Texas Anahuac is a small town that sits on Trinity Bay at the mouth of the Trinity River. Getting here was a 10-minute detour from I-10. Despite bordering Harris County to the west, Chambers county is quite far from Houston and does not see a spillover of urban sprawl. It remains another typical Texan county dominated by agriculture. Like what you see? Follow for more 🔥🔥🔥 by @kappageography
Posting a courthouse every day! Courthouse #40: Jefferson County, Beaumont, Texas The old courthouse is a 14-story art deco brick tower, one of the most unique looking courthouses in the US. Beaumont is a fairly large city sitting close to the Louisiana border, and thus shares much of the same industry as other gulf coast cities within the area. Both Beaumont and the nearby Port Arthur contain large chemical and petroleum refineries, and products are shipped through the Sabine Pass into the Gulf of Mexico Downtown Beaumont is incredibly devoid of development for a city its size. There was an abundance of surface parking all over the city, even for American standards. Like what you see? Follow for more 🔥🔥🔥 by @kappageography
Posting a courthouse every day! Courthouse #39: Orange County, Orange, Texas At long last, we finally make it to Texas. Orange County is the easternmost county along Texas’s I-10, which stretches 880 miles, the longest stretch of interstate within a single state. Exit 880, the highest exit number on the interstate highway system, drops you directly into Orange, which sits on the banks of the Sabine River on the Texas border with Louisiana. Like what you see? Posting a courthouse every day! Courthouse #38: Calcasieu Parish, Lake Charles, Louisiana The final stop before we cross the border into Texas. Lake Charles is Louisiana’s 5th largest city. A massive ship channel connects Lake Charles to the Gulf of Mexico over a span of 30 miles. The channel passes through the aptly-named Calcasieu Lake, however further dredging has to occur since the lake’s depth was too shallow for commercial shipping. Like what you see? Posting a courthouse every day! Courthouse #37: Jefferson Davis Parish, Jennings, Louisiana Another small stop along I-10. Jefferson Davis was the former president of the Confederate States of America. 4 states have a county named after him, but 2 of them opt for the shorter “Jeff Davis” instead. Camera quality is bad because my phone camera fogged up. Like what you see? Follow for more 🔥🔥🔥 by @kappageography
