4th painting for my Alma en el Metro project! Alma is on her own in the big city! :”3

This one was more a quick painting to get a feel of a city, but for a small kid! I remember how large the city also felt to me, ever expanding…

This is my third painting for my Alma en el Metro project! After staying with her uncle after a couple of days, she decides to embark on her own into the city to ride the train.

Following my previous post, this scene overall was inspired by my grandparents home back in Mexico City and as well as other family members and neighbors homes I remember playing alot as a kid. Some people have pointed out too this reminded them a lot of some shots in Roma and yes!! That was such an inspiration for this particular shot <3

Here is the shoebox I got to explore for my project!

I wanted to design Tio Gabriel’s sewing room/living room within his home. I decorated this place and the hallway too based on my grandparents previous backgrounds as clothing tailors and gardeners, and how they brought those back within their own home.

These are some buildings I did to explore the look for Uncle Gabriel’s neighborhood. Areas like Colonial Roma del Sur and Coyocan were a huge inspiration for these, aswell as parts of the city I remember walking with my Abuelo a lot :3

my 2nd painting from my Mexico City project!

Alma discovers that the city’s main metro is closed down during her stay. Her uncle consoles her, as they leave the entrance to head back to his home.

It was really fun to still research how many of the metro stations in the city still look like as how they are from the 60s. Aswell doing some graphics for the station too (Lance Wyman and Pedro Ramirez were some main artists who contributed to these designs!!).

hellooo I’m finally back from Mexico!! Wanted to share my other project from grad show “Alma en el Metro” which was inspired by the 1960s French wave film “Zazie dans le Metro” and relocating it in 1960s Mexico City!

I had such a fun time researching Mexico City in this era and during my last term at school, incorporating memories of my younger self exploring the city with my Tio y Abuelo <3 I tried to show the excitement of the Alma arriving in Buenaventura Station, rushing to see the city’s new metro’s.

This project was literally a love letter to the city and remembering my summers there. I’ll be sharing more this week!

And the last painting for this project - an homage to Monet’s waterlilies painting he would pursue later on, a symbol of hope and reflection to those he has lost throughout his time as an artist.

From Monet’s paintings, through some shared letters of Monet and Camille, and from my readings, I wanted to share how I visually could see a retelling of both of their lifes if it were animated <3 there’s a lot now I have grown and learn from doing project, many story changes, and paths were moved during this project but I’m happy now seeing some paintings exist now from something that was just an concept in my mind for 2 years now!

I let myself for my last projects at school to be things that drove me curious and also to just have fun with personal research, atmosphere, and the usage of memory from letters and paintings as a source of inspiration. I hope you have enjoyed seeing these and my small notes about this project!! Hoping to post more about my other project soon while in Mexico by @karamiio

Even in their new home, Camille would unfortunately fall ill during their time in Argentuil. Monet recounted the last weeks before Camille’s passing to his artist friends, dealers, in having to balance of taking care of his wife and still making art.

If you know the painting of Monet did of Camille during her passing, it is a very eerie painting yet at the same time very human. by @karamiio

Finally posting the remaining paintings I did for my project “Camille”. These last three paintings were more experimental in using Monet’s palettes from his later works during the 1870s in Argentuil.

Monet wrote about his fondness of the body of water, that of La Seine river, and how much time he spent admiring it during his time at his new home. La Seine was almost this spiritual river that flowed through the shores of northern France down towards Paris.

I wanted to captured a dreamy and intimate moment for the family here <3 by @karamiio

And continuing with more paintings! I tried to capture Monet and Camille’s new home in Argentuil. Both took the decision to leave Paris after the exhibition, for both family reasons and also leaving the public behind. Monet within his letters wrote beautifully how he adored their new home and the landscape in Argentuil. Yet, Camille would come to be concerned with Monet’s changing relationship with his art after criticism.

Had a lot of trial and error creating this piece but I’m really satisfied with the result. Hope you have been enjoying my little notes about this project ^__^
