I remember thinking, “God, how could You use someone like me?” How could I pray for someone and talk about God, then give a hand job within the same hour? I felt like a hypocrite, dirty and unqualified.

But God knew my heart despite my outer appearance. He wasn’t asking me to clean myself up before I came to Him. He was asking me to follow the conviction and obey and just start writing.

How many of us think we’re too dirty, too broken, or too far gone to come to Christ?

But He says, “Start here. I know your heart. Stop seeing yourself through the eyes of your shame and start seeing yourself the way I see you.”

If I’m the last woman on earth standing in front of a family who needs Jesus, I’m preaching the Gospel.

Yes, 1 Corinthians 14:34–35 says women are to be silent in the churches. But women also prophesied, Acts 2:17–18. Priscilla helped teach Apollos, Acts 18:26. And Jesus sent a woman to announce His resurrection, John 20:17–18.

This is exactly why I’m not interested in proof texting, taking one passage out of context to silence what Scripture itself records.

God can call a woman, use a woman, and send a woman. So if your theology needs a woman to shut up before you’ll hear the Gospel…

kick rocks.

I’ve learned to intentionally watch people, not to judge them, but to discern what’s happening beneath the surface.

When there’s a spiritual battle taking place, people will often reveal more than they realize. Listen to how they speak. Watch what they repeatedly do. Pay attention to the patterns, the reactions, and especially what they seem to reach for.

Because when you understand rejection and the orphan spirit, you start to see the connection. We often go after the very thing our heart has been missing. Discernment isn’t just hearing what someone says, and watching for patterns, it’s also asking the Father to show you what you may not be able to see naturally.

You can love someone and still discern them. In fact, I believe real discernment should always come with love.

God doesn’t send wounded soldiers back onto the front lines.

Look at an army. When a soldier gets wounded, they don’t just throw them back into battle. They pull them out. They take care of the wound. They give them time to heal. And I believe God does the same thing with us.

Sometimes He’ll pull you away from everything you’ve known and make you sit down. Not because He’s done with you, but because there are things in you that need to be healed before He sends you back into the very place that hurt you.

Because when you go back, you’re not going back the same, you’re coming back as an overcomer! Buy the testimony:

This is what unhealed, narcissistic parenting can look like:

They beg you to come back. After seasons of healing, you finally reconnect. They open their world to you, make you feel welcomed, safe, and like everything is finally okay. Can anybody relate?

Then you step back into their territory after healing and doing the homework, the old trauma resurfaces from the unhealed, the same patterns begin—and within days, you’re back out the door. This time with harsher wounds.

We need to stop normalizing this with, “But she’s your mother.” Or, “honour your mother and father,” the Bible says so.

You can honour a parent without giving them unlimited access to you. A title does not cancel your boundaries, and forgiveness does not require you to repeatedly submit yourself to abuse.

And healing isn’t something one person can accomplish alone. One person cannot heal a relationship by themselves. It takes two people willing to confront the truth, take responsibility, change the patterns—and ultimately, the Holy Spirit to bring the healing neither person can manufacture on their own.

Sometimes loving someone means stepping away from the cycle instead of continuing to participate in it. #narcissist #abuse #forgiveness #narcissistmother #honor by @karen_souter_

Some people are called to lead in places the Church has not always known how to reach.

That is one of the things I appreciate about Karen Souter. Her leadership carries a willingness to go toward people others may overlook, misunderstand, or quietly decide are too complicated. She understands that if the Gospel is truly for everyone, sometimes ministry has to look different in order to reach the person who may never walk through the doors of a church.

Karen is leading differently because she understands something the Church cannot afford to forget: Jesus went toward people.

He went toward the broken, the rejected, the misunderstood, the ashamed, and the ones others had already decided what to think about. Karen’s story and ministry carry that same heart. Leading differently does not mean compromising truth. Sometimes it means being willing to carry truth and the love of Jesus into places where people desperately need both.
Karen is also the author of Blood Bought, a book that speaks powerfully from her own journey and what God can redeem when a life is fully surrendered to Him.

Blood Bought can ONLY be purchased directly through

And to the woman who is leading, building, or carrying a ministry that does not always fit the traditional mould, maybe you are not doing it wrong. Maybe God has trusted you with a different way of reaching people because there are people your obedience is meant to find.

Women who lead have to be willing to ask whether the wineskin still fits what God is asking them to carry.

This conversation with Karen Souter is important because Karen is not simply talking about leadership. She is living what it means to build from a story God has redeemed and to think deeply about how we actually reach people.

Some women are being called to build differently because the people God has entrusted to them may never be reached by simply repeating what has always been done.

That requires courage, discernment, and a willingness to stay deeply anchored in Jesus while following Him into places that may look unfamiliar.

Karen’s story is a powerful reminder to the woman leading, rebuilding, or stepping into something new: you can honour what God has done before without being afraid of how He may ask you to build now.

The Lord will find you in the places you thought time would heal, and He will begin calling you back into the woman He created you to be.

What Karen Souter says here is powerful because time does not heal everything. There are places only the presence of God can reach. Places where He says, “You need Me. You cannot do this without Me.” And then He becomes living water in the very places that felt empty.

For the woman who is building, rebuilding, or being called to lead, hear this: your calling does not require a story untouched by pain. Sometimes God meets you in what you could not fix on your own, restores your identity, and teaches you how to lead from what He has healed.

Karen’s testimony is simple and powerful. He never left her. He never forsook her. He showed up.

And maybe that is part of your leadership story too.
The place where God found you may become part of the place He calls you to lead from.

Keep building, woman of God. He knows exactly where to find you.

Karen Souter is a woman who is building ministry from the very places God redeemed.

Her story is not separate from her leadership. It has shaped the way she sees people, carries compassion, and makes room for those who may have believed their past disqualified them from being used by God.

There is something powerful about a woman who has allowed Jesus to meet her in the hardest chapters of her life and then chooses to build so others can find Him there too.
Karen, this is what leadership can look like. Not hiding the story, but allowing God to redeem it so deeply that it becomes part of what you carry for others.

Your testimony does not have to remain something you survived. In the hands of Jesus, it can become part of what you build.

Some women lead from what they learned in the room. Others lead from what God taught them in the fire.

That is part of what makes Karen Souter’s story so powerful. She is not hiding the places God brought her through. She is building from them, leading from them, and using her voice to reach people who may have once believed their story disqualified them.

For the woman who leads, this matters. Your history does not have to silence your leadership. When surrendered to God, even the chapters you would never have chosen can become part of how you carry others forward.

This conversation with Karen Souter on Sword & Grace Unscripted is one you do not want to miss.
