What’s the hardest part of being a therapist?

We asked the therapists at the Karen Doherty Clinic, and their answers might surprise you.

From holding someone else’s pain to never knowing how their story ends, therapy is about so much more than what happens in the room.

Behind every therapist is a human being who listens, cares and sometimes wonders how their clients are doing long after their sessions have ended.

Which answer surprised you the most?

Are we becoming too comfortable asking AI to do our emotional thinking for us?

ChatGPT can help us find the right words, navigate difficult conversations and even make sense of our feelings.

But therapy is about so much more than getting an answer.

It’s about reflection, emotional growth and the experience of being in a relationship with another human being.

And I wonder whether, in our search for immediate solutions, we’re beginning to lose sight of just how important that human connection really is.

What do you think? Could you ever see AI replacing a therapist?

AI might give you the perfect response, but is it actually helping you understand yourself?

There is a difference between being given an answer and learning how to reflect, process emotions and navigate difficult conversations.

Therapy isn’t just about finding solutions. It’s about the human relationship, the connection, the misunderstandings and the emotional work that happens between two people.

AI can be a useful tool, but can it really replace human connection?

I’d love to hear your thoughts. Are we becoming too reliant on AI for emotional support?

**Let’s talk about sex... and the books that might change how you think about it! 📚**

Sex and intimacy are topics I talk about an awful lot, and yet there is still so much misunderstanding around them.

From ADHD and desire to the fascinating history of sex, these are five books I think are well worth exploring.

Some are practical, some challenge our thinking, and some are simply fascinating!

What I love about these books is that they remind us that sex isn’t just a physical experience. It’s influenced by our minds, our relationships, our experiences and the world around us.

And the more we understand, the better conversations we can begin to have.

**Have you read any of these? Or is there a book you would recommend? I’d love to know!**

Intimacy is so much more than sex. ❤️

When we talk about intimacy, we often focus on the physical side of relationships. But what about emotional connection, shared experiences, laughter, or simply feeling understood?

There are so many different ways we connect with our partners, and we don’t always need the same things to feel close.

The important thing is recognising where your relationship is flourishing and where it might need a little more attention.

So, here’s a question for you. Which type of intimacy do you think is most important in a relationship?

We spend so much time talking about relationships, but how much time do we actually spend understanding what intimacy means within them?

Last night’s intimacy workshop was a wonderful reminder of why I love doing this work. ❤️

We started off a little shy, but by the end, the questions, conversations and shared experiences were flowing.

What I love most is how one person’s question can unlock something meaningful for somebody else.

Because intimacy isn’t just about sex. It’s about connection, understanding and learning how to navigate the complicated business of loving and being loved.

Thank you to everyone who joined, whether you shared your thoughts or simply listened.

More conversations to come! ❤️

How do you know when it’s time to leave a relationship? ❤️
Perhaps the real question is, is your partner willing to meet your needs?
You’ve communicated what you need. You’ve asked for more commitment, more connection and those small everyday moments that make you feel valued.
But what happens when nothing changes?
Relationships require two people who are willing to listen, negotiate and work towards meeting each other’s needs.
It’s not about getting everything right. It’s about being willing to try.
And when those conversations lead nowhere, perhaps it’s time to ask yourself whether this relationship can give you what you need.
How many times should you have to ask for the same thing?

How do you know when to keep trying and when it’s time to walk away? ❤️

Relationships take work, patience and compromise. But there’s a difference between working through difficult moments together and being the only person trying to make things better.

Not every difficult period means the relationship should end. Sometimes change is possible when both people are willing to listen, take responsibility and do the work.

But how do you know when enough is enough?

I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments.

Why would I recommend these four ADHD books? 📚

Because understanding ADHD isn’t always straightforward, and sometimes the right book can help us make sense of ourselves, our partners or the people we love.

From accessible introductions to whole body health and some of the original voices in ADHD research, each of these books brings something different to the conversation.

These are four books I think are worth exploring.

Have you read any of them? And is there one you’d recommend? I’d love to know.

Your sex life might be fine, but are you truly feeling connected to your partner?

Intimacy is about so much more than sex. It’s about feeling heard, understood, wanted and emotionally close.

Sometimes the love hasn’t disappeared. We’ve simply lost the route back to each other.

In my Intimacy in Modern Couples live workshop, we’ll explore the different types of intimacy, how neurodiversity can affect connection and practical ways to rebuild closeness.

No blame. No pressure. Just understanding, conversation and finding your way back to each other.

Have we taken self love too far?

We hear it everywhere. Put yourself first. Protect your peace. Know your worth.

And whilst these messages are important, I do wonder whether we’ve started to forget what it means to be part of a couple.

Healthy relationships aren’t always comfortable. There will be differences, disagreements and moments when compromise is needed. That doesn’t automatically mean something is wrong.

Self love matters, but so does making space for your partner.

Strong relationships aren’t just about the “I” or the “you”. They’re about the “we”.

It’s about staying curious, learning to repair and continuing to choose each other.

What do you think? Have we become too focused on ourselves in relationships?
