POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

A marvellous weekend where people ‘drew’ their stories of their everyday lives in forms of objects. The workshop was held at All Saints Church in Loughborough as a part of the Heritage Weekend Festival. The session was funded by the DARES Adventure Fund by @lboroca . Thank you Rebecca and Claire for supporting my wild ideas!

I asked people, “what is an object that makes you feel special on an everyday basis?” For some, it was an object that they carried everywhere; for others, it was something too special or fragile to carry around. Whatever it was, they could recreate it with a 3D pen that allowed them to make a tactile version of their memory and hold it on their hands.

After making the objects, people told the stories of their objects and we recorded these tales. These stories will become digital videos that serves as heritage for tomorrow. Stay tuned!

Thank you @alison_mott for including me in the church, and thank you Rector Emily for having me all through the weekend. by @karenjysung

POP BY from 1 pm to 3.30 pm to All Saints Parish Church today, where I’m helping share its story of standing at the heart of townspeople’s’ everyday lives for almost a thousand years.

Our #HeritageOpenDays displays and activities fit around today’s Sunday services (which EVERYONE is welcome to attend).

These include EVENSONG at 4 pm, where the choir will be using a form of worship heard in the church for more than 500 years.

We had a wonderful first day yesterday, with ...

* Textile story-gathering
* Medieval-tile colouring
* Glass window art painting with Liz Waddell Artist, and
* a 3D drawing activity with Loughborough University's Dr Karen Sung

... as well as tours of the church itself and visitors discovering new stories about Loughborough’s past.

There’s lots of heritage being shared around the town again today - but do make sure to call in and see us at All Saints!

I was mortified to find out that one of my colleagues didn’t know that I can draw with fountain pens. I literally have a tattoo of it! (not that a tattoo is an evidence of anything)
So, naturally, I’ve taken my fountain pen out for a test sketch. It creates a very distinct traction with my paper that can’t be replicated with other medium.

Urban-sketch-based research project brewing. Will update when September ends 🎶 by @karenjysung

Spot illustrations for a veterinary researcher who wanted to use drawings for a conference about long-term care for a pet (I think?).
Graphics are welcomed in academia too, and who can resist the “can you draw dogs all day” request? by @karenjysung

Today is March Movement Day in S Korea:
“a series of protests against Japanese colonial rule that was held throughout Korea and internationally by the Korean diaspora beginning on March 1, 1919” (Wikipedia).

I quietly celebrate the day in the UK whilst people go about their todays like any other day. Meanwhile, I stumble upon more and more Korean products here, such as the boxes of Shin Rameon in my local Sainsbury’s as pictured on the second image.

Look how far we’ve come, I think, all in the meantime also thinking, “oh I wish they stocked Jin Rameon rather than Shin Rameon.” 😂

Ps. This illustration was a part of a series that never saw the light of day; may pick this up later!

“Wrong ways to eat” often involves a mesh of cultural adaptations/applications. What else gives you the ick? I can only think of two!

Happy Year of the Red Horse! Here is an oldie but goodie, featuring a horse. It somehow looks MORE Korean now than when I first made it. by @karenjysung

From my wee town in the UK; first time living outside of London, I’m now noticing how strong the Floral Slip On Dress game is in English suburbs ✨

YES I KNOW ITS NOT XMAS KEEP SWIPING

As today marks the last day of Seollal (Korean New Year), I want to remind everyone that tradition looks different in families, not just between cultures.
So please don’t be alarmed when some of us don’t follow the “traditional” tradition that our nation holds. It’s not up to anybody else to decide how we celebrate.
