🎉Porch View Dances is back and celebrating 15 years of Dance and Community! ✨Join the movement - July 1 - 5, 2026✨ Together, we will embark on an unforgettable journey through Toronto’s historic Seaton Village (Dupont to Bloor). Explore the vibrant downtown neighbourhood, filled with thrilling performances and special guests at every turn. PVD celebrates ‘real people dancing in real spaces’ and the stories of Toronto’s residents by taking dance out of the theatre and into our daily lives. Aria Evans @politicalmovement steps into creation with @karenkaeja and @allenkaeja for their 7th lifeDUET this fall. The commission process begins at the Kaeja creative incubator Residency in Saugeen Nation / Town of South Bruce Peninsula. KDD has also commissioned their long time composer @edgardomorenomusic. K and A are thrilled to dig deep with both of these great artists, whom they have journeyed through beautiful collaborations with over the years. The new lifeDUET will premiere Spring 2027 (look out for date & location soon!). KDD lifeDUETs have been created by Claudia Moore, Peter Bingham, Marie-Josée Chartier, Tedd Robinson, Ben Kamino, and Hanna Kiel. Karen and Allen have toured lifeDUET combos to Spain (Bilbao Guggenheim Museum), Mexico (Coyoacan), India (Arrangham Dance Theatre), Oregon (Smith Fine Arts), across Canada (most recently Vancouver Island with BCMAS and DOTE), and in Toronto, with more dates in the works. Without a doubt my most incredible artistic research experience to date and one that I will be synthesizing for the rest of my life. Impossible to put into words The Arctic Circle Residency aboard a 156 foot schooner sailing ship over 2 weeks, with 27 artists and scientists, and a team of wonderful guides and crew, sailed all the way around Spitsbergen (Svalbard) as high as 80 degrees north (just south of the North Pole). Stopping twice a day on land for our artist enquiries and experiments, the 24 hour sun, wind, water, ice, glaciers, tundra and vacant beauty spoke to me. The polar bears, hump back whales, seals, walruses and birds surrendered with us. On Saturday, I head off on what feels like the adventure of a lifetime. I’m honoured to be part of The Arctic Circle Residency, joining 25 artists and scientists from around the world aboard a schooner sailing through the High Arctic Archipelago for 2 weeks, nearly 800 kilometres south of the North Pole. I’ll be the only Canadian on this extraordinary expedition. For decades, my work has explored touch, balance, freeze, thaw, memory, and how the body adapts to change. In the Arctic, those questions meet a landscape shaped by ice, pressure, fracture, melt, and decay. I’m excited to learn alongside artists and scientists whose ideas will challenge and expand my own and to respond to what the environment asks of my body, as I follow my curiosity. Fun fact- did you know that Svalbard (where the journey launches) remains one of the few places on Earth where polar bears outnumber humans (2,500 people) and is the northernmost permanently inhabited region in the world.
