So A post from @lenawaithe came across my feed today. The topic “ WHAT ARE YOU READING “

As an artist, writer & literary advocate her approach to encourage more readers is absolutely essential.
Many people do not realize that though I was in the top ten in elementary and middle school I still struggled with reading comprehension. I realized that I had to digest written information in small pieces and I comprehend quicker when it is presented in audio.

The dictionary & thesaurus were my best friends. I read them like regular books to digest words and pronunciation of words.

To contribute to this world of knowledge a challenge everyone to read these 20 books.
And to extend the challenge, make content to encourage people to read a book that has influenced you.

In this current climate of book bans, it is even more vital that we encourage youth, as well as adults to continue their reading journey. Even if it means rereading a book you previously read.

(Full disclosure: two of the books are produced by me.)

Thank you Lena for this important influence.

This metaphor is simply profound. This young lady has been here before. I wish she was my educator when I was growing up.

Listen in. You may definitely learn something.

Reshared from @ashleytheebarroness I talk about Black history all the time.

What happened to us. What we survived. What we built. What we changed.

But that still doesn’t really answer the question:

What does it FEEL like to be Black?

I think this is the closest I’ve ever come to explaining it.

We don’t doubt it. This sista has been dropping knowledge for a while. Definitely follow her on all of her platforms.

And @ashleytheebarroness ….. please run for Congress or the Senate. We need knowledge back in politics. #knowledgeispower

Reshared from• @ashleytheebarroness People always ask how I find these stories 😭 honestly a lot of it is just not closing the tab. The archives are public. The records are public. I just keep digging longer than most people want to. Constructive nosiness, basically.

I was very blessed to have met the great artist @betyesaar when she had her solo exhibition at the @nortonmuseumofart back in 2006. Meeting her in person and having the opportunity to learn her story as female assemblage artist literally changed my life as an artist. That day I met her she became my favorite artist of all time. Since then I got to meet her again when the Norton brought her back to speak years later. And I also got to do a spotlight tour at the museum in 2023.

Sadly we lost Ms Saar, 4 days short of her 100th birthday.

If you can take a moment look her up an learn her story.

Happy belated heavenly birthday Tupac. You would have been 55. You were ahead of your time. Maybe you would have made even a larger impact on our lives. It was our loss #gemini

reshared from• @bet BET Archives: 1994. An exclusive interview between Tupac Shakur and Ed Gordon.

An artist. A storyteller. A visionary ahead of his time.

In this conversation, Tupac spoke candidly about race, media narratives, self-preservation, and the value of Black life. He challenged audiences to look beyond the headlines and confront realities many were unwilling to discuss.

Some artists leave behind music. Others leave behind a message that continues to echo through generations. As we celebrate his life, we also celebrate the impact of artists who use their platform to do more than entertain: to spark conversation, inspire reflection, and help move culture forward.

🕊️ Happy Birthday, Tupac.
