Depending on one source of income is a terrible financial decision.People spend years making others rich hoping for loyalty. Companies are loyal to themselves. Start building today. So when you get that calendar invite from HR and your manager, you have options. Saying as someone who’s been laid off twice. by @karinabarton_

Not gonna lie I’m still not used to this type of messages. When you’re already having a sh*tty day it hits differently. But … I always remind myself people who judge you for being courageous and taking the step rarely do more than you. by @karinabarton_

OpenAI didn’t fight the headline, they accepted what happened and then took the one person who could’ve wrecked their credibility, the Hugging Face CEO, and turned him into the person vouching for them in their own official statement. That’s story repositioning.PR people do it all the time … sometimes let’s just say it crosses the line. You might not like it. But this skill will change your life. Use responsibly! If you want to take control of your story to land the job, close the deal, or get the outcome you’re after, follow for more. by @karinabarton_

Most people hide behind “I don’t know how to contact this person” not because they don’t know how but out of fear. Fear of taking the step, fear of being rejected, fear of putting yourself out there.Change your mindset, change the game. It’s that simple.Follow for more tips 😉💵 by @karinabarton_

5 career pivots … one constant.merit alone keeps you in a company (somewhat protects you from getting laid off), visibility and advocating for yourself is what moves you forward … a better title, more 💰💵oh he or she isn’t working as much as I do, they’re not even that smart … wait what? they got promoted? or hold on we’re doing the same work (i actually do more!) so why is my salary lower?! 😱 sounds familiar? if yes… what did you do? 👀 by @karinabarton_

This isn’t a drinking strategy (a sober girlie here 👀). When I graduated from business school, I was doing everything right to find a job. Recruiters. LinkedIn. Messages to my network. Coffee chats. Crickets. One evening, frustrated and defeated, decided to treat myself with dinner to feel better. Sat at the bar, ordered food, was looking at a case study I did for a company I interviewed with a day before (I didn’t get it). A stranger asked what I do. I told him my life story (a short version haha) and that I’m trying to get a job in private equity. He was a partner at a private equity fund. Gave me his email. Next day I had three interviews scheduled. I thought it was a coincidence until … someone I knew was in Central Park, had a small talk with a stranger mentioning that he was just coming from a networking event as he was trying to land a tech role. That Central Park stranger just raised money for his company. Two weeks later my friend got the job. Same outcome. Different setting. It all comes down to surface area. The existing network you have is great and you should always check in with it first. However, it is limited, you have to keep expanding it for things to happen. The most unexpected opportunities come from new environments and those conversations that almost didn’t happen. Get out more. Not aimlessly. Strategically.Follow @karinabarton_ for more. by @karinabarton_

I paid $200K for my MBA. Worked at JPMorgan. Represented Elon Musk during the Twitter acquisition. Got laid off anyway. Here’s what I learned that no classroom taught me:1. Being smart is not enough. You need visibility I watched average performers get promoted over brilliant ones every single time. The difference? They were seen.2. Networking is BSNobody wants to be networked at. “Hey, I came across your profile and want to include you in my network. Do you have time for a quick call?” STOP it. Build real long-term relationships. That’s the only way to create real opportunities.3. Corporate is not a meritocracy (anymore!)It’s a perception game. Once I understood that, I stopped feeling overlooked and started playing strategically.4. If you don’t play the politics, the system will spit you out.Every organization has its own rules. Learn them or get pushed out. Politics and bad culture is not the same. If it is, get out as fast as you can! 5. Your personal brand is your only real job security.I learned this after my second layoff. When you get let go, your brand is what opens doors. It’s what makes your cold email get a response. It’s what turns you from one of thousands of applicants into a strategically positioned individual people actually want to meet. What’s one truth corporate taught you the hard way? 👇Follow @karinabarton_ if you’re done building just a resume and ready to build real influence. And if you’re curious about how the game is actually played, how leaders spin narratives and shape the story, stick around. Someone who represented Elon Musk during the most watched acquisition in history knows a thing or two. 👀 by @karinabarton_
