On Father’s Day, I think about fathers in a different way.

Some fathers literally give a part of themselves to their children. My father gave me a kidney and, with it, more years of life, hope, and possibility. There is no greater expression of love than making a sacrifice for your child without expecting anything in return.

To all the fathers who show up, sacrifice, support, and stand beside their children through life’s challenges—thank you. Your presence matters more than you may ever know. #fathersday2026

National Kidney Foundation Spring Clinical Meeting (#scm26 @nationalkidneyfoundation ) was a blast! I felt like I was back to being a doctoral student presenting data, hanging a poster and working the floor answering questions from judges and fellow scientists! I felt I belonged… it is so important to be true to yourself and I do have many surfaces but in my core I am a forever student athlete wanting to learn, discover, present, WIN and grow… for fellow patients, for the scientific field itself and of course our TEAM! Sisters - my two sisters are my very best friends. I am the oldest and I am the one who used to protect Lisa and Anna. I also used to tease them and they have lots of stories about how bad I was to them, but they must know, I would do anything for them and their children. I cannot imagine life without them. Clearly Lisa and Anna feel the same way since Lisa, three years ago TODAY 4/19 gave me one of her two healthy kidneys. The ripple effect of that choice extends beyond my survival and joy, to my daughter, my parents, my friends and my company. Without Lisa, life would not be (nearly the same). Tack. Merci. Three years apart - and beyond the height equalizer happening naturally, the difference is ”jumbo” (8 year old language), w me on dialysis on 4/12/23, vs 4/12/26 having had a kidney transplant and doing well (fingers crossed) …. Eating, drinking, bathing, traveling, working, exercising and being present - as much as my natural age/mental state can support - while when tethered to a machine, dependent on the machine for staying alive, peeing, hydrating, nourishing and of course linked to it for time. Four hrs, three times weekly. Miss one session and the provider @davita_kidneycare told me that my risk of dying is 50% higher in the next thirty days… dialysis has higher mortality than a majority of cancers and yet 550k people are on it today… #donatelife and never forget the kids who are part of this too - the children of those on dialysis who live through this as well…#mytransplantlyfe #kidneytransplant #dialysis taken in Westport, Connecticut by @karinlyfebulb

Tomboys, sports fanatics, adrenaline chasers - clearly, we are all of that and yet, we love putting on a fancy outfit and going to a great event… here’s to sports and fun!
