Last weekend, possibly one of the most epic road trips I’ve achieved in only two days. About 600 miles altogether, 3 destinations and so many lovely people :)

@ntfountainsabbey just jaw droppingly stunning

My favourite spot 🏰

@crochetcampyorkshire a gathering of lovely crocheters who put up with my lack of skills. Big thanks to Lucy and her mum who organised it all and made me feel very welcome! It was based at @the_cud_life which was a perfect setting such a charming site with lots of cute animals and tasty food.

All my camp goodies!

Cheshire Book Festival of Other Worlds run by @thecuriouscatbookshop. Such a brilliant day, the whole team were so friendly, talked to so many fellow readers, and found far too many books to add to my TBR, would highly recommend people to get tickets for next year!

Discovered so many new authors, every talk was a pleasure to listen to. Will definitely be returning!

🌸 ARC REVIEW 🌸

Sophie, Standing There by Meg Mason

Sophie is both okay and very not okay. Sophie has just gone through a divorce, but she has a steady job and a loving brother. Often finding herself alone and reluctant to rely on others, Sophie is given an early copy of a book from an author she hasn’t read for years and this authors writing creates a safe haven for her to escape to. Then the author is announced to be attending the literary festival Sophie is working at… what could possibly happen?!

Exploring love and grief, and the spectrum of life that happens in between, using the most intimate, tender, and honest storytelling. I loved this read and did not want to put it down.

I absolutely adored Sorrow and Bliss so this was an instant @netgalley request for me. Highly recommend picking these both up. Thank you @bloomsburypublishing

Meg is also lovely to listen to, if you like a podcast, her episode on @howtofailpod (Elizabeth Day is the best interviewer ever) is great, go give it a listen!! ✨ taken in BOOKSTA by @karis.is.reading

✨ ARC REVIEW ✨

The Slantwise Histories by @alix.e.harrow

A beautiful selection of varied stories travelling through myth, legend, fairy tales and original worlds. The writing is so gorgeously crafted I did not want to put it down.

These tales are brilliant on the surface and even better for their depth, incorporating themes of antiestablishmentarianism, environmental impact, anti colonialism, and including queerness and feminism as standard!!

If you haven’t read Alix’s most recent novel The Everlasting, I implore you to pick it up, it’s such a magical story.

Thank you so much to @panmacmillan and @netgalley for the e-ARC of this title 🌻 taken in BOOKSTA by @karis.is.reading

✨🌌 The Dog Stars 🌌✨by @peterhellerauthor

On the surface this is a dystopian post-apocalyptic novel, but underneath it is a moving story of connection, relationships, nature, grief, community and living!

In this book we follow main character Hig, a pilot, living in an aircraft hangar with his trusty sidekick Jasper the dog and Bangley, a former marine. This is after a worldwide blood-borne pandemic that has decimated the global population. I don’t want to spoil any of the plot, but I was hooked very early on, with no moment wasted as we move through the storyline. Each character is so well crafted with brilliant personality, you really find yourself connecting with and rooting for them.

Reading this outside as a prop plane flew overhead really added to the experience.

Super excited to see how the film captures this story, not too long to wait now.

Highly recommend picking this up 💫 taken in BOOKSTA by @karis.is.reading

Currently reading an arc (thank youuu @harpercollins @netgalley) of A Snake Among Swans by @hanfrankan and I am HOOKED!! It’s out at the end of the month and I already know I will be buying a physical copy. Highly recommend checking it out!!

Epic fantasy where the women are the heart of the story, with a brilliant plot and such captivating characters. Tilde and Elise are my everything 🦢🐍

Ps. swipe to the end for my beach summoning circle :) taken in BOOKSTA by @karis.is.reading
