2 years ago today, on March 16th 2019, I flew to the San Francisco Bay Area and rented a car there to bring Olivia & Finn to their new home, 💖💙 after two and half months of negotiations with the farmer, trying to convince him to keep these 2 babies, who had no chance of living a long, healthy and happy life at the place they were born. There was so much I didn’t know about farmed animals… I have since then, made every effort to learn and educate myself to keep them safe and loved. My life has changed immensely after rescuing these angels, and even though it’s challenging at times, I am so grateful for them and that I can offer them the love and respect they deserve. They turned me in to a morning person, which I never was 😆💖… They’ve helped me become more patient, compassionate, and focused on the simple things in life, which really matter… Overall they have helped me become a person who makes choices with intention and purpose, and opened my eyes to EVERY BEING who deserves to be loved, and deserves and wants to live. I love these silly, crazy, sweet babies so much, and I’m so happy and grateful to be their mamma! ❤️ #chosecompassion #veganfortheanimals taken in La Jolla, California by @karlaherica

If you live in LA or know someone who does, you know someone who has lost their home. If you still have a home, or have an extra home, or a spare bedroom and can offer a place to stay, or help foster a pet (all the shelters are fully packed right now), or if you can help volunteer with wildlife and large animals, please do. One of my friends in Palos Verdes is offering a paddock for horses or other large animals, so let me know if you need that space. If you don’t have extra space, helping with clothes, food, your heart, kindness, your hands, your time, anything you can offer, makes a huge difference right now.

There are resources being shared, like restaurants offering free meals for first responders and those impacted by the fires (which I’m posting on my stories), as well as organizations that have paired up with Airbnb to offer a place to stay at no cost for one week, which is a great starting point.

Thank you to the firefighters and first responders for everything they are doing. And sometimes, something as simple as bringing water and food to those helping can make a difference.

California will always be home. It has been my home all my adult life. I lived in both Northern California, in the San Francisco Bay Area, and in Southern California. I just recently moved away, so I’m safe, but my heart breaks for everyone impacted. Even though I’m far away, I would love to help however I can. Please reach out if you need anything. There is a special kind of joy when you hear your friend is getting married, but then there are people like you, Teens. 🤍 When you told me the news, it was something beyond words, a happiness so big, it felt like my heart could not hold it all. 😍

Being by your side at the altar, watching you so beautiful and so full of joy, was something I will never forget. I have dreamed of this day for you, I have prayed for it, and seeing it all come true for someone as deserving as you was truly unforgettable. There was not enough tissue on the bridesmaid chair for all my tears of joy, 🥹 because this happiness is everything I have always wanted for you. 🤍

Teens, you are my friend, my sister, and one of the most special people in my life. My heart is so full knowing you have found this love, this happiness, this forever. I love you more than words can say. 🤍🤍

One of the best concerts I’ve ever been to, with some of my favorite people in the whole 🌎 🫶🏻🤍 Willie Nelson’s 90th Birthday was one for the books! The lineup was an absolute dream, from Neil Young, to Dave Matthews, Leon Bridges, Norah Jones, The Lumineers, Chris Stapleton, Snoop Dogg, Tyler Childers to name a few.

Nothing beats making memories with these friends and chosen family ❤️ and it was truly special to experience this with you! @tinaschlapprizzi you were missed!!

🤍 The reason I don’t celebrate or enjoy Easter is because love, faith, and rebirth should never come at the cost of innocent lives. It just does not make sense. Every year, millions of baby animals: lambs, goats, calves , are brought into this world just to be killed, especially for holidays like Easter. Taking lives in the name of celebrating Jesus and rebirth?!

Over 300 MILLION animals are slaughtered worldwide for Easter alone.

Lambs are gentle, affectionate, and full of love, just like the pets we love at home. They are playful, intelligent, and they care about their families and friendships just as much.

If you are being served lamb today, I invite you to imagine how you would feel if you were told it was puppy meat. Because in all the ways that matter, it is.

We can choose compassion, kindness, and life instead.

Today is a really sad and difficult day for all of us at Sowa. While we try to keep things positive and upbeat on our most of the time, today we are feeling the weight of all the innocent lambs and other sentient beings who were violently killed for a holiday that is supposed to celebrate new life, rebirth, and the return of spring. All of the lambs in this video were destined to be slaughtered for Easter dinner before we intervened and gave them the opportunity to live out their lives in peace and happiness. If you wouldn't eat a roasted puppy, why would you eat a roasted lamb? They are no different. They are just as loving, playful, intelligent, and deserving of our love and kindness.
They value their lives and families and friendships just as much as puppies. If you are being served lamb today, I'd invite you to imagine how you'd feel if you were told it was puppy meat. Because in all the ways that matter, it is.

This home called to me for many reasons - from the feeling to the design. It's spiritual, peaceful, sexy, intentional, crafted beautifully with love and attention to detail. There is nothing like this I've found in the desert thus far.

Trudy 💖

One month ago someone reached out for me regarding a 3 months old black angus calf who had part of her leg amputated by a farmer, no vets or meds involved. She was obviously in excruciating pain and very traumatized. I immediately started working on a rescue plan for her and, thankfully with the help of Kira Kiesler @ggh_rescue were able to find a foster home with Darcy @imthefunkychicken as well as fundraising for her vet care and transportation to UC Davis with the help of John Hilsky. We drove to Oregon to pick her up in the midst of snow, together with 4 other neglected babies. Trudy is safe and loved and she will only know love going forward 💗 She will also be getting a prosthetic leg soon from the incredible Derrick @bionicpets @wizardofpawstv

When Darcy asked me if I had named her already, I started to think what I should I name her…I knew her name had to be special, reflecting all her strength and resilience ♥️ I named her "Trudy" which is short for Gertrude, which means strength and resilience. And that is exactly who she is: strength embodied, strength to live against all the pain and all the odds. This girl is so brave, strong, and resilient. I'm in love with her 🥰

The day I met Trudy she was terrified of humans, understandably. She would try to run and get away at any moment a person approached. Getting her into the van to transport wasn't easy and it was heartbreaking to witness how scared she was. This angel has no reason to trust humans, and yet, you can see on the videos how loving and forgiving she is. Less than a week later she is giving and getting kisses from Darcy in the sanctuary, her new home 🫶🏻🤍

Our food system is so broken. To breed a sentient creature into existence just to kill him or her. I thought I would leave the farm happy for saving a life, but instead my heart was heavy heaving to leave so many others sick newborn babies behind. Nonetheless I am grateful I was able to save Trudy, who will be a proud ambassador for all her brothers that were left behind.
