Hello friends, family and folks at home!

It seems I have some new folks here so I wanted to take a second to introduce myself :)

My name is Karla Santana and I’m a first generation Mexican/American artist and designer based in Chicago! My work brings together elements of childhood nostalgia through printmaking and fiber arts.

I have too much whimsy and joy to contain inside so I often sell my work at local markets around Chicago with the intention of making cute art affordable and accessible.

Join Avondale Arts Chicago on Saturday, February 28th 11-5 at the beautiful Parker Karlov Event Space (4055 West Parker, near Pulaski and Diversey) for a day filled with over 35 unique local artist and makers heavily from Avondale and partners from across the city. Engage in Avondale community activations and arts collaging projects, face-painting, performances, and light bites for purchase. We are thrilled to see you on the 28th as artists and neighbors come together to build creative community with your support. Discover some beautiful works to take home that are made by Chicago artists. See you there!

For all my party animals out there 😎
9hrs condensed into 30 seconds!

Sometimes I get asked about my process and truthfully a lot of my process is redrawing the same sketch until it gets less shitty!

Really excited for this design as I both colored it for a risograph print as well as for a 2 color screen printed tapestry!

Cant wait to see what the screenprint/riso prints will look like!!

Market prep is no joke!

So many little things to prepare for one of my favorite events of the year Sonido Fest with @explorenmma!!

I’ve got a rotation of songs on repeat until I get bored lol. Right now its a lot of José José and before it was a lot of Barry White, I wonder what it will be next???

Market summer is in full swing and if you haven’t caught me yet you’ll have lots of chances coming up soon!

-My Planet Karlita exhibition is currently on display at @littlebrokenthingspalatine from now until August 21st! I have some lovely framed Risograph prints available for purchase so go book a haircut and take a peek!

-THIS SUNDAY July 19th I’ll be at trinket fest once again!! So so so excited and I will have lots of fun goodies 💛 tickets in my bio!

-August 15th you can catch me at Sonido Fest at @explorenmma! This was SO much fun last year and I’m super excited to be back again!

-Finally August 29th and 30th you can catch me and the amazing @littleguyfactory_ at @hechoen_artsfair! Will be such a lovely time!

Had a very crafty weekend prepping for the Mexico V England game…

Though I’m sad at the outcome, it was so fun to get invested in the world cup (which i never care abt lol) and see my fellow Mexicans get so fired up!!

I saw so many cuties online DIYing their own accessories so I decided to put my crafty stash to work and made some cute clip on moños!

@sillayynessa and I were also inspired by a video from @fromabolivian and made our own letter tees!! They came out so cute and I will absolutely be sporting it all the time to show my Mexican pride~ 🇲🇽✨

We couldn’t leave frijolito hanging so we also made him his very own bandana!!

Finally we had to stop by the @stripclubphotobooth to document our fabulous garb 😌

Such a delightful crafty weekend! Maybe I will DIY another patch tee for the Norway V England game…(hoping Norway destroys England btw)

I’ve been having a little bit of trouble creating lately. I know its something all artist go through. Especially after riding a very long wave of creativity it’s inevitable to experience lows after highs.

I try not to get on myself too much! The summer is for hanging with friends and making good memories. Searching for creativity in small ways, and for me lately that came through learning and making fun felt crafts! Can you guess which one is mine in the first pic? 🤡

I may not always be up for making new things for the shop but I can always count in craft time with my buds to bring out my creativity!

Fellow artists! What helps you when you’re stuck in a rut? Do you push yourself through? Or do you give yourself a break? I’d love to know! by @karlamadethis
