Geraldine Connor would have been 72 today. She remains one of the most influential people I’ve ever had the privilege to know, and I carry her impact with me in the artist I’ve become.

She taught me the true power of community and the arts, how they can uplift, connect, and transform. Geraldine had a rare gift, she made everyone feel seen, valued, and essential. She brought together people from all walks of life and was deeply inclusive in everything she did. While she built a vast and devoted village around her, she somehow balanced her time and energy so that each person felt that same genuine importance.

She was a force in the arts, a pioneer who helped shape Black British theatre and created lasting spaces for creativity to thrive. Through Carnival Messiah, she didn’t just stage a production, she built a living, breathing community of artists who continue to collaborate and celebrate creativity to this day.
