Karly Cramer says jail completely changed the way she looked at incarceration.

After being sentenced to six months, she says what shocked her most wasn’t being locked up herself.

It was the people around her.

Karly describes seeing a revolving door of people struggling with mental illness and addiction, and says she became horrified by how many of them seemed to need treatment instead of another trip through jail.

Her takeaway:

“Jail has become a mental institution.”

That experience ultimately became a huge part of why Karly now advocates for people caught inside the criminal justice system.

Karly Cramer says this is exactly why she can’t walk away from the work she does now.

Parker Coleman was 24 years old when his case began.

Karly says he went to trial and was sentenced to 60 years in federal prison.

And in this clip, Parker says it himself:

“My name is Parker Antron Coleman, and I’m serving a 60-year sentence for trafficking and conspiracy. I am a nonviolent offender.”

He says he’s been incarcerated since 2010.

Whatever your opinion is on marijuana laws, sentencing, or the justice system, 60 years is a number that makes you stop and think.

This is a huge part of why Karly created Jailed for Weed and why she continues bringing attention to people serving extreme sentences.

Karly Cramer was a struggling single mom trying to keep life moving.

Then she found a side hustle delivering weed.

What started with $6,600 and six pounds eventually turned into something much bigger — until she was caught with 100 pounds of marijuana and $22,000 in cash.

But the wildest part of Karly’s story isn’t just how she got into it.

It’s what happened after.

Jail changed the way she saw addiction, mental health, punishment, and the people still sitting behind bars for marijuana offenses. Now, through Jailed for Weed, she’s trying to bring attention to the stories most people never hear.

This episode goes from shocking to heartbreaking really fast.

420 was supposed to mean freedom, culture, and cannabis community. But while people celebrate legalization, some people are still sitting in federal prison for nonviolent 🌱 cases. This 4/20, remember the men and women left behind by the war on weed. No one should still be in prison for 🌱 in 2026.

We can celebrate 4/20 and still demand justice.

Max Leidermann is facing a life sentence in a federal 🌱 case and has already been detained for nearly three years without a conviction.

He was arrested in Los Angeles in 2023 and transferred to Nebraska — a state he had never been to and has no ties to.

We had a wonderful day in DC hearing stories from former plant prisoners many who were given clemency by President Trump. @potus

Please remember there are thousands of people currently incarcerated for the same thing we will be celebrating on 4/20.

While families across the country are gathered together for Thanksgiving, Edwin Rubis remains behind bars, serving a 40-year sentence for a non-violent 🌱 offense. Despite having already served 27 years, his mother and son are pleading with President Biden to grant him clemency before leaving office in January. It’s a stark reminder of the injustice faced by Edwin and thousands of others who remain incarcerated while others profit from 🌱. It’s time to send Edwin Rubis and all plant prisoners home. by @karlycramer

💔🐾RIP Tiny and Fynn 🐾💔

Last Tuesday Tiny (the larger black dog) passed away.

Four days later, Fynn decided he wanted to join her. He loved Tiny so much and they were incredibly bonded. I believe he died of a broken heart. 💔😢

Jason Gregg, a father of 2, is serving a 15 year sentence for a non violent cannabis crime as a first time offender. Jason is from Mendocino County, CA- part of the Emerald Triangle which has been at the forefront of the cannabis industry.

How do you explain to his children that the same plant their community depends on to support their economy is the same plant that has taken their dad away from them for years? #makeitmakesense #freejasongregg #plantprisoner #clemency #victimlesscrime #legacygrower #massincarceration #thewarondrugs taken in Ukiah, California by @karlycramer
