it’s so hard to not feel bombarded by this space here on instagram, like maybe if i had x, y, z my kids would play independently or play longer outside! but the truth of the matter is i think the more toys you have out there the less they want to play!!

let outside be outside— let this be the space they EXPLORE! they discover, learn, let their imagination develop & run free!!!

so no, i don’t have links for the fun things we do outside!!! we do have plastic toys the kids to play with out back, but quite honestly… they were all like a $1 from the thrift store & my kids play with all of these “free” things wayyyyy more!

so stop overcomplicating childhood. they don’t need a million things, they just need you & a wide open space to explore ☺️ by @karrryam

sharing some of what my three year old does while i do bookwork with my big! it’s been so fun to get to find what works for us & share it as well! we used to do morning baskets similar to this, so when i saw this idea from @jamielouiseyoung it was an instant YES for me! by @karrryam

it took me a minute to find them, but these primary spiral notebooks are perfection for this!! i find that the traditional composition style notebooks are not it for littles— they get stuck trying to hold open the notebook & end up not wanting to draw at all…

so these are IT! i’m loving watching them get their imaginations moving & coming up with ideas & stories even at a young age, with a little prompting of course! but i can’t wait to look back at the end of the year to see how their drawing has evolved!!

there are no rules with this, pure creativity & imagination. i allow them to draw as they please even if it isn’t super related! my 3 year old is participating & for now they’re inspired scribbles & im just loving it!

realizing that not much really matters that much anymore— that is the things i spent sooo much time stressing about to realize that what matters isn’t how clean or together we have it. focusing more on the quality of every second of the day.

homeschooling is breaking so many expectations i had for myself. things can still function if it’s messy or done imperfectly.

can you tell im finally starting to overcome some of the perfectionism & over-tidy mindset that didn’t fully let my kids do their thing in our home?! by @karrryam

we do school about 3x a week right now & we keep it super simple, but make sure we pack in all of the right things!

i have a 5 & 3 year old & we’re focusing on the kinder level— my 5 year old is the main focus & my 3 year old tags along. she gets to jump in & do most of it with us, but she isn’t expected to do it all. i focus on the core subjects at the moment & add in other fun topics & art along the way. my kiddos both go to nature school twice a week & soak up so much nature based playing & learning that when we sit down at home i make sure we’re getting more of the core subjects in!

this has been one of my absolute favorite things! getting to watch them grow, develop the ability to draw from prompts & discover their own creativity!

we also use these journals for different topics we go over, books we read, etc.

i make sure to date & add prompts. they also tell me more about their drawings so i can note it to look back on later

so much fun!

this was a simple idea i came up just to continue number recognition & practice! we’re finding we need a lot more review between lessons & these simple activities help a lot!

another counting & number practice game!

roll the dice & add that many stars to fill their picture!

baby pretty much always tags along for our homeschool mornings!

gave the kiddos some fuel & bounced baby around while i read this story aloud. we really love the whimsy of this book!

i have a collection of fine motor practice, puzzles & activities for this girlie to do!

phonics! we’re using explode the code & i find that he knows soooo much of this already (from other curriculum & practice) so instead of sitting & circling we go through the activities verbally. we talk it through & he points to answers! i find it works much better! by @karrryam

celebrating the season change is such a special, quiet time to stop & reflect. to find reasons to be grateful, to notice what’s going on around us. we reminisce on what the last season has offered & all we’ve done, but welcome with open arms the beauty of the next!

we did a simple hike to notice what may be changing in the world around us. we celebrated by reading stories & drinking warm tea. we also journaled & drew to reflect on our summer & share what we’re looking forward to this autumn!

what are you most looking forward to? we’ve already had sooo many cool mornings with a candle lit & our favorite warm, nourishing breakfasts in full swing!
