It started out as a notes page in my phone, then became printed pages in a folder I doodled on while my baby slept beside me. 💕

What began as words, sketches, and dreams slowly grew into Mermaids Don’t Swim in the Bayou.

When it came time to celebrate, I knew I didn’t just want to throw a birthday party, I wanted to step inside our story. ✨

So I reached out to Keamber with one request:
“Help me turn our story into a birthday party.” 🧜🏽‍♀️🌿

From the bayou magic to the mermaids, every detail reflected the pages of our book — a world my daughter once imagined, now unfolding right before her eyes. 🌊💖

What started as a simple idea became an unforgettable celebration of motherhood, imagination, and New Orleans magic. And the best part? This mother–daughter duo is only getting started. ✨📚

Thank you to everyone that was apart of these memories!

Money can’t buy happiness, but it can buy highlights, and that’s good enough! 😉💕

This oh so real clip in install was done on a net with very minimal leave out around her part and hairline! This method is super easy to maintain and refresh.

I’m ready to provide my clients with the absolute best quality clip ins. Swipe to the end to see the original shade prior to me doing a custom color to match her hair. ✨

Very girlie.
Very fall.
Very real.

Kinda chic to follow your dreams.

I’m Kasii 🫶🏽✨

I’ve been a licensed cosmetologist since 2018, a business owner, and now a mother.

I’ve built my career with my own hands, trusted my vision, and kept making room for the woman I’m still becoming.

Still dreaming, still creating, and proud of what I’ve made for myself. 💁🏽‍♀️ by @kasiimimms

Meet Kodii Joy, the little visionary whose imagination gave Little Lagniappe Books its very first story. ✨

One day, while we were driving along the bayou, she looked out at the water and asked, “Mama, are there mermaids in the water?”

Her curiosity saw possibility in an ordinary moment. I listened, held onto her question, and began building the world she imagined. Little by little, Mermaids Don’t Swim in the Bayou came to life.

Responsive conversations between children and the adults who love them help support early language and social development. Giving children meaningful opportunities to share their ideas and participate can also build their confidence, identity, and sense of agency.

I want Kodii to always know that her voice matters, her imagination has value, and her ideas deserve to be taken seriously.

This is the visionary behind our first book. Imagined by Kodii and brought to life by Mama. 🤍📚

Sometimes the biggest stories begin with the smallest voices.

I’ve been holding something very special close to my heart, and I’m finally ready to share it. 🥹

Motherhood has tested me, stretched me, and required me to meet versions of myself I didn’t know existed. Through those tests, I’ve begun to recognize my own strengths, not only as a mother, but as a woman with dreams, creativity and the ability to build something meaningful.

I also needed to show myself that my dreams were still worthy of being followed, regardless of imperfect circumstances or distractions. I want Kodii to grow up watching me believe in an idea, nurture it, and have the courage to make it real.

Some of our earliest weekly dates were bookstore trips, choosing stories, and making memories between the shelves. I wanted reading, creativity, and imagination to feel like a natural part of the life we built together.

Then one of Kodii’s silly toddler questions during a car ride became a story. What I now know was a message from God gave me direction, clarity, and purpose. As I brought her imagination to life, I realized this dream could become a world where children see themselves, their culture, and the places they call home reflected in stories filled with wonder.

That intention became Little Lagniappe Books, where little imaginations become real stories. ✨

Our first book, Mermaids Don’t Swim in the Bayou, was imagined by Kodii and brought to life by me. What we’re building is bigger than one book. It’s a foundation rooted in love and imagination, a legacy we’re creating together, and proof that our biggest dreams deserve a place to live. 📚

After two years of developing our story and working through the obstacles along the way, we’re finally approaching the finish line. Follow @littlelagniappebooks as we get closer to our first book’s release and share the stories still to come. 🤍 by @kasiimimms

I never imagined I would be sharing this.

Ursuline Academy was part of my childhood, and when I had my daughter, I genuinely believed it would become part of hers too.

I applied early. I applied nowhere else. I accepted her spot almost immediately. I trusted the school because of what it had represented to me for so many years.

Kodii attended for only 2.5 days.

During that short time, I experienced repeated issues with communication, conflicting information, classroom expectations, food policies, her adjustment to school, and ultimately the handling of an injury that resulted in me carrying my screaming 3-year-old out of the school and taking her directly to the emergency room.

Thankfully, she did not have a fracture or dislocation.

But the fall itself was never the entire issue.

Children fall.

What changed everything for me was how the concerns I had already been raising suddenly became relevant to my daughter’s physical safety.

Afterward, I received no follow-up from the Early Childhood department checking on her condition.

When I later contacted the school President and formally moved forward with withdrawal, I was also informed that I would still be responsible for 50% of the full-year tuition under the school’s withdrawal policy.

For 2.5 days of attendance.

I am sharing my experience because parents deserve clear communication, transparency, consistency, and accountability when we entrust someone with our children.

I did not expect perfection.

I expected care.

The playground fall did not create my concerns.

It exposed them.

And regardless of the name on the building, its history, or what it once meant to me, I will always advocate for my daughter.

Intentional motherhood 🫶🏽✨

-Laughing until we cry
-Setting the standard for self love
-Basking in softness and whimsy
-Taking our time
-Following our dreams

When a mother enjoys her motherhood, the child enjoys his or her childhood. It can be that simple. Life is so magical these days. 💕

Side note: One evening while I was doing my lashes, Kodii gave herself a tattoo that was very hard to wash off. 😅😂 When I asked her what it was a drawing of, she said ME. What a great way to get out of trouble? Smart girl. 🥰 by @kasiimimms
