My neighbor saw this ruffled grouse in my yard. Unfortunately it was not alive and is not the first deceased grouse in my yard this year. Totes brought one into the house early summer on a nice day when the door was open. A couple of years ago, I found another one in my yard. Those last two were not ruffled grouse. I do have a small wild area so maybe they live in there. No blood on this one and I looked. My big dream was to become a forensic anthropologist so looking at such things does not bother me. Life happened and I don’t have any regrets.

On this gorgeous day, I’m finishing a project started yesterday: canning last year’s salmon and pickling beets.

Tomorrow I’ll smoke salmon left over from last year and then can that batch for winter. Salmon chowder and salmon fritter days are ahead.

October is Pit Bull awareness month. In the photos are my Chattanooga granddogs: Jackson, Merle the matriarch and Finley who is a lab-boxer mix, he is also the furthest away from the camera. They are the sweetest of the sweet and I love them all. taken in Palmer, Alaska by @kasilofpottery

Getting ready to head to Soldotna for some friends and sister time. After cleaning the house, I took the dogs on a walk along the river flats. Gorgeous. Charlie found a metatarsal and by the size, it probably belonged to a moose. taken in Palmer, Alaska by @kasilofpottery

A few photos from yesterday although most of you saw the beautiful weather and the contrast between a fading fall and an early glimpse of winter. It was a perfect day to prep the apple harvest and the house carried the scent of cut apples into the evening.

This morning is crisp, 31° which is to be expected. I know many friends will have much colder temperatures but I’ll take what I have. The morning light streaming through the windows is one of my favorite fall-winter-spring views and softens what is to come here in the valley. taken in Palmer, Alaska by @kasilofpottery

After this morning’s darkness and colder temperatures, the afternoon was stunning.

Took the dogs for a walk on the Morgan Horse Trails and was not disappointed.

After the trails we drove out Wolverine to see the sights. Wow. Stormy skies up the Matanuska Valley gave a nice background for the hayfields.

For dinner, I made zucchini lasagna but it was more like soup. Still good. Noodles are used for a very good reason. 😂 taken in Lazy Mountain, Alaska by @kasilofpottery

Last night’s moon which has been pulling out all the stops this week. So lovely.

After the last mountain top snow drop, it seemed like it was here to stay and it did. Looking out this morning, that was confirmed as more was added overnight and cooler temps are in effect for the next few days.
