I’ve been quietly working behind the scenes and collecting tools to work with this scrap leather I could not leave behind @reversegarbage
We all know I LOVE to #upcycle

I’ve made a couple of things for friends but I wanted to try out adding the pearl beads!
I hate that I chose a piece the same colour as my mat but I had the idea in mind, it was not a choice 😂

I’m so open to any advice on working with leather and of course, what would you wanna see me make next??

No one talks about the amount of audacity it takes to make something unique in a world that rewards trends and sameness.

It is audacious to think I can make something people have never seen before and think they want to buy it.

It’s audacious to know exactly what’s trending and what would sell in a heart beat vs creating something entirely new and unique instead

It’s audacious to put yourself out there in a world full of armchair opinions

My bags aren’t shaped like regular bags and each one is one of a kind made with reclaimed materials never to be made again and that to me is very audacious in a world that rewards trends and being like everyone else.

Sewing, crafting, hobby babes, hold onto your butts! Apparently! Some of you have never heard of @reversegarbage in Sydney and that’s actually a craft crime.

With a focus on upcycling and sustainability, you’ll find literally everything in this place. I love it to spark ideas and as a way to find a missing piece to finishing another idea. Some of my coolest finds are from here!

Easy to get to in Marrickville, worth the visit!

The chair I made for my trade with @saint_chainmaille is in it new home and looks FUCKING AWESOME 🙌
I got some really cool branding that I’m soooo stoked with and I got to upcycle this piece I’m so proud of and that @saint_chainmaille loves ❤️⛓️ oh and I made a pretty cool new friend out of it too!

Always down for a trade, you never know what I’ll make you 😂

I made myself a shirt to wear to show and when I snuck a peek in my stories it turned out y’all wanted one too.

I sneaked a peak in my stories of this shirt I made last night just cause I was sad I couldn’t wear it out and the response was ummmm kinda nuts! My inbox blew up of people wanting one. I was going to try be fancy and do a launch but honestly, LOL

I’m so inspired by heavy music and the culture that raised me that I decided to put my own words on this woodland camo tee in glow and the dark no less! To wear to a show, unfortunately I was sick and couldn’t make it, instead heaps of you fell in love with the design and wanted one for yourself. 🥹

This is it, this is how I want my art to work, I make it, you see it, you love it, you grab a piece for yourself. No fancy marketing or launches just unique pieces made by hand in small runs. Sharing my joy with you all the best way I know how.

Last night I shared I’ve been working with leather but what you don’t know is this is actually the second piece I ever made a couple of months ago and it was a gift for my dear friend @madisonsewell_ who I’ve known since she was just a wee teenager working in a footwear store.
She recently got engaged to her sweetheart and I wanted to give her something special to commemorate it and share my joy the only way I know how, making things for the people I love!

I used my @cricut_anz and some HTV to put their initials on the piece.

While she doesn’t smoke, I thought it would make a cool decor piece to store the lighter used for candles around the house. Better than that plastic bic thing glaring at you 👀 or as a bag charm and lipstick holder

Allow me to reintroduce myself
I’m Kassy King
I’m a multidisciplinary artist from Newcastle NSW.
This is my latest creation, a snippet of what’s to come and the reintroduction of my art/artistic practice.

I work across multiple mediums, dream of new ideas and make things I can’t find in shops. It’s creative chaos over on this side of the internet 🔥

A big part of my practice is upcycling, making one of one pieces as I personally love to own something no one else has got and I want others to share in that feeling!

Sometimes I work in collections (see The Garden @voluptuary_world) sometimes I make one off pieces (as pictured) but all of it has the undercurrent of Kassy King.

You’ll find everything you need to know on my website and as I make different pieces of art I’ll release them there.

There’s no schedules, no time limits, no seasons. Just art as it was intended to be made, slow and for joy, both mine and yours!

So if you like unique creations (either owning or being inspired by), I reckon you should stick around.

I’ve never been clearer about my artistic practice than I am now and I cannot wait to see what that confidence creates!

#gifted Proof that second hand shopping doesn’t mean you can’t be fashion forward! It’s easy to upcycle when you have a @cricut_anz and an EasyPress. I pressed these oversized polka dots using the new Cricut EasyPress SE and some Smart Iron On in black.

It didn’t take long! And now I’m ready for #cphfw ! 😂

So what do you think? Would you wear a thrift flip?

If you like the polka dots design they’re available on Cricut design space under Kassy King (I did use smart iron on to print them all at once, so if you’re using a mat you may need to make adjustments but it’s quite simple using the Cricut design space). :) make sure you tag me if you use them! 3 reasons (plus a bonus reason) you should head to ‘The Garden’ this weekend @voluptuary_world to see my crochet bag collection I created especially for it!

I spent 3 months creating sculptural art bags from a mix of reclaimed, thrifted and new yarns all with no patterns just made with vibes. I let the yarn tell me how it wanted to sit and feel and I added little touches like beaded gems for dew drops or shiny flower shaped beads for the centre of the draping vines.

Each bag took hours to make plus I spent more time creating custom bag tags, custom dust bags, custom insert gather bags and care instructions so pretty you’ll wanna keep them on your wall.

Plus Crumpet tried really hard to be involved in every single part of the process, so he gets an honourable mention 🐈

The Garden is an immersive pop up art shop showing and selling works of over 60 Australian and New Zealand artists who all interpreted the brief in their own artistic expression and there’s some super cool pieces to see, touch, feel and buy!
