“龙 Resurge”
My thesis collection began with a rediscovery of my love for drawing. It wasn’t an instant realization, but rather a gradual return to something I had once deeply connected with. I found myself constantly creating by hand, no matter the medium, but somewhere in that process, I had forgotten the feeling of limitlessness, the sense that anything was possible if I truly put my mind to it. Growing up, drawing always gave me that feeling.
As I explored different paths, that feeling came back through body art. While working at a tattoo studio, I was mentored by an artist specializing in traditional East Asian tattooing. Watching their process and the kinds of pieces clients chose, especially mythological imagery, sparked my curiosity. I became fascinated not only with the visual language but also with why people felt so drawn to permanently carry these symbols on their bodies.
I became particularly drawn to dragons. Growing up in a Chinese household, I knew them as symbols of power, protection, and good fortune, but I wanted to understand their stories more deeply. This connection to both imagery and cultural narrative became central to my work.
This collection is the result of many small moments and experiences that gradually came together. I’ve been incredibly fortunate to meet and be supported by so many people along the way, and I truly wouldn’t be here without them.
