There’s so new friends here so I wanted to introduce myself. Whatever brought you here, I’m really glad it did.

This little corner of the internet is where I’ve been sharing what God is teaching me through widowhood, worship, writing, motherhood, grief, healing, and all the ordinary moments in between.

If any of that resonates with you, maybe we’re meant to walk this journey together. 🤍 by @kat.huskey

People will always have opinions about grief.

Some people expect grief to always look heavy.
But healing does not dishonor love.
And joy does not mean you forgot.

There are still hard days.
There are still moments that ache deeply.
But there is also Jesus —
meeting me in the middle of it all,
bringing peace where I thought there would only be pain.

I’m learning that grief and joy can live in the same heart.
You can miss someone terribly
and still laugh again.
Still dream again.
Still build a beautiful life.

That is not weakness.
That is healing.
That is hope.
That is God restoring what sorrow tried to steal.

So let people have their opinions.

I will keep choosing joy when it comes.
I will keep letting God breathe life back into me.
And I will not apologize for healing ❤️‍🩹 by @kat.huskey

“I am the Lord; in its time I will hasten it.”
— Isaiah 60:22

We always think waiting means delay but what if it means preparation? Preparation for acceleration. by @kat.huskey

If we are faithless, He remains faithful, for He cannot deny Himself. 2 Timothy 2:13

I’m learning not to be so afraid of the depth of my grief.

The deeper I’ve allowed myself to go, the more I’ve discovered Jesus there—and the more I’ve realized that the depth of the grief is also evidence of the depth of the love.

The loss isn’t the gift. But to have loved that deeply? What a gift. 🤍 by @kat.huskey

A few months ago, I was sitting with my therapist talking about grief—about losing my husband, about my girls, and about what all of this would mean for them.

She said something I haven’t been able to forget:

“Your daughters will never forget watching you rise like a phoenix from the ashes. They’ll look at their mother and know what they’re capable of.”

But then she reminded me that rising doesn’t mean hiding the pain.

It matters that they see me cry.
That they know I miss their dad.
That they see grief is allowed to be grief.
That they watch me walk through the process instead of pretending it doesn’t hurt.

But more than anything, they will remember how I made them feel while we walked through it together.

And that has stayed with me.

I can’t change what happened to us.
I can’t give them back the life I thought they would have.

But I can show them how to live this one.

How to grieve deeply and still laugh loudly.
How to miss someone with your whole heart and still love the life in front of you.
How to trust God when the story looks nothing like you thought it would.
How to get back up.
How to keep your heart soft.
How to believe there is still so much goodness ahead.

I’m more determined than ever to show my daughters how to live.

Not by showing them a mother who never falls apart, but by showing them a mother who knows where to go when she does.

A mother who keeps choosing joy.
Keeps choosing hope.
Keeps choosing Jesus.
Keeps choosing life.

I am so deeply grateful to Austin for giving me the gift of being their mom.

They are part of him that I get to hold every single day.

And maybe one of the greatest ways I can honor the life we built together is by teaching these girls how to really live theirs.

And someday, when life asks something hard of them, I hope there’s a part of them that remembers watching their mama get back up—and knows they can too. by @kat.huskey

Grief needs somewhere safe to go.

Sometimes God gives us people to hold us. Sometimes He gives us the quiet to finally let go.

The environment changes. The One holding us never does. by @kat.huskey
