My what and my why..

I was on ITV News and I never posted the video on the grid… But I think it deserves its own square, doesn’t it?

It was lovely to be interviewed by @sallyweather in my studio and at @omnide_builds where my solo exhibition called "A trip down happy memory lane" is on until the 17th June ❤️ Don’t miss it! 96 Belsize Lane NW3 5BE London

I don’t expect this reel to go as viral as the last similar one I did, but I’m still hoping it can find more of my fellow “joy collectors” the ones who relate to my art and my “why”…

So, hey 👋 my name is Kat Vandal, I’m a French mixed media artist who transforms preloved toys and happy childhood memories into Dopamine art, welcome to my playground 🎨 🧸 🛝 taken in London, United Kingdom by @kat.vandal

Curioso Artist Features: Joy
Dopamine rush - popcorn confetti
@kat.vandal
Preloved toys resin, acrylic paint, laser cut acrylic panels, canvas and wooden frame

What does joy mean to you and your art practice?
"My art practice is a way to eternalise moments of joys. As a nostalgic I tend to feel a slight sadness even during or just after happy moments, especially through my experience as a mother and how quickly everything passes and how many “last” I’m experiencing with my almost teenager son. Making art with his toys and now as a practice with other people’s toys is transforming this sad nostalgia into a lighter happier nostalgia." by @kat.vandal

Last week @nicky.mote and I took down Dopamine Rush, my solo exhibition that opened on the 11th June in London.

I said goodbye to all my sold pieces before they’re shipped to France, Switzerland, Greece, Dubai, Spain and UK (still not quite realising)… So I HAD to take a last cheeky photo with some of them 🫣🤪

I’m so glad Nicky who curated the show, printed the Private view poster so I can keep a piece of this exhibition at home 💛🩵💜
I think there are 1 or 2 left if you’d like one! (And a hand full of of pieces left).

Most importantly, it felt so good to reflect on our collaboration and pause for a bit to enjoy all the achievements from putting together the show, hosting a private view for over 100 people and actually selling most of the pieces 🙌 I loved having a partner in art and I can’t wait for more art projects with you!

🩵 What challenges do women still face in the art market? 📈🖼️

💫 In this clip from the Art World Women podcast, Kat Vandal (@kat.vandal) reflects on being labelled a “woman artist,” representation in the contemporary art world, and why conversations celebrating women artists continue to matter.

‼️ According to the 2026 AWITA (@awitalondon) × Artnet (@artnet) “Hardwiring Change” report, “Nearly half of women aged 25–44 surveyed are considering leaving the arts within the next five years, with the highest rate (50.6 percent) among women aged 35–44—precisely the cohort expected to move into leadership roles,” highlighting the importance of continuing conversations around equity, visibility and long-term career progression.

I had the honour to be a guest on @artworldwomenpodcast hosted by @byzoesera who amplifies voices of women artists, creatives, art professionals and cultural leaders.

In this clip, surrounded by my son’s first toy’s that I turned into Happy Art, I reflect on how becoming a mother has influenced my creativity, and equally how my art practice has become a way of coping with the bittersweetness of motherhood: watching childhood change almost faster than I can hold onto it, each new first carrying the possibility of a last.
