Good Grief is an exhibition within a new series that I have been working on for the past year. I started the Daily Button Diary May 3,2024. The daily response of listening and feeling informs most of the gestures in the show. The nine double-sided yard signs form part-poem and part-anecdote. Everything else may speak for itself.

I’m looking for a few people to adopt a sign to form a long distant poem. DM if you’re interested— the only requirement for adoption is it must be public and willing to temporarily loan to me in two years.

exhibition description: Portland-based artist Kat Richards introduces their exhibition and publication Good Grief as a multimedia experience of public and private grievance that indirectly reflects every conversation they’ve had for the past two years. Through the use of metaphors and materials, Kat fills the space with dirt, buttons, humor, and anecdotal text that addresses personal, general, and abstract distress. On view at the Kolva-Sullivan Gallery from June 6th to ?, Good Grief showcases yard signs, poetry, stickers, and other elements that invite the viewer to share a good laugh and possibly cry.
