So happy to tell that our multidisciplinary photography/workshop project around the Baltic Sea - NOTES will be shown at WAM (Wäinö Aaltonen Museum) in October 2026!!

"WAMx will open with Notes on the State of the World, a body of work by serial and photographic artist Kati Rapia and visual artist Ilona Valkonen. Working in collaboration with young people, the artists will collect marine litter and lead photography workshops along the Baltic Sea, a region under significant environmental pressure.

During the summer of 2026, Rapia and Valkonen will conduct workshops with local youth in the Turku archipelago. These activities will be complemented by dancers from the Regional Dance Centre of Western Finland, who have participated in the youth workshops."

Fresh from the printers! I did design and took photographs for this book and was also co-editing it with @aijusalminen who had the original idea. This book is about friendly murals and city-space. At the same time it is also a catalogue of 10 fresh artists, who have created their own imaginary murals! It is published by @reunakustantamo and will hit the stores soon. @kat_i_rap @kallasmaaerika @maria.sann @olyatikh @ossyhello @rakastaja_robert @camillejulieromano @tuomasmas #muralart #catalogue #artbook #reunakustantamo #jussikarjalainen Extra thanks @taikegram @kuvittajat_ry by @kat_i_rap

THE LOVIISA ORDER OF COLUMNS

Visual artist Kati Rapia has created ”The Loviisa Order of Columns” to challenge the age-old Doric, Ionic, and Corinthian architectural orders.

The Loviisa order of columns attempts to map out which values support us today, and what kinds of structures hold up our thoughts. What are today’s liminal spaces* like, and do we dare to walk through them?

Rapia’s two-dimensional pillars in a multidimensional world act as gateways to the world of art and exploration at the University of Kucku performance venues.

*liminal: being between two states, or on a threshold; a state of transition; an interface
