I always regretted not getting to @elbulli but discovering all the amazing restaurants on my hiking trip on the Costa Brava certainly enlightened me to Spain’s unique food culture. Like El Buli, Miramar by @pacoperezmiramar is in a tiny village. I cannot fathom having a Michelin-star restaurant in a town of 4000 (!) in the US. It is a testament to their cultural appreciation of food and cooking. I also was in awe of the fresh, ripe (!) produce on seemingly every corner—no GMOs in sight! And the walking-focused cafe culture in every city—plus so rare to see a chain restaurant, and if you did, they were small and unassuming with no huge signs or billboards in sight! Imagine how much our country—and small towns—could be transformed by creating and sustaining a culture focussed on local food, small businesses and the social interactions that sidewalk cafe culture and walking engender! taken in Llansá, Cataluna, Spain by @katalinaday

Costa Brava means “rough coast”—and rough it was! After training all summer, we hiked 60 miles of rough, very steep terrain. Tip: Go on a hiking trip with a friend like @amylstev who does Orange Theory three times a week if you really want to challenge yourself 😫 PS She may claim to live and breathe AI, but she wouldn’t be such a great travel partner if that were true, as you can see! taken in Spain by @katalinaday

Our own Dine Diva learned to love homegrown tomatoes from her father’s garden, which is why she says “tomato”! But only the juiciest, ripest tomatoes go on her sammies. And September is the last month for the best of the bunch, so getcha a BLT while they’re still in season for gosh sake! 🍅🍅🍅🍅🍅
