Wellness is rarely just one thing. Work, relationships, physical health, finances, identity, grief, purpose - they all overlap more than we sometimes realize.

When one area starts feeling heavier, it usually spills into the others. Maybe there’s less patience, more exhaustion, more irritability, or just that vague feeling of being “off” without really knowing why.

Sometimes it’s less about asking, “What’s wrong?” and more about noticing which part of life has been asking for a little more attention lately.

We’re taught to optimize life.
To be more efficient.
More productive.
More polished.

Optimization asks:
How do I perform better inside the system?

Alchemy asks something else entirely.

Alchemy is what happens when experience changes you.
When grief becomes wisdom.
When pressure becomes presence.
When identity dissolves - and something truer takes its place.

Optimization improves the surface.
Alchemy transforms the substance.

You’re not here to make life faster or cleaner.
You’re here for the work that turns lived experience into meaning.

That’s the difference. taken in Las Vegas, Nevada by @katalyst.counseling

It’s interesting how we call it “losing ourselves”… when most of the time, we just learned to separate from parts of ourselves that didn’t feel #safe to keep.

Some parts got louder.
Some went quiet.
Some disappeared entirely.

Not because they didn’t belong, but because something in your environment made it feel that way.

We’re taught to label parts of ourselves as “good” or “bad”, but even the parts you judge the most learned how to protect you.

The guarded part.
The reactive part.
The one that shuts down or pulls away.

They didn’t show up randomly.
They showed up intelligently.

#Therapy isn’t about becoming someone new.
It’s about creating enough safety to stay connected to all of you.

#Wholeness isn’t created.
It’s remembered. by @katalyst.counseling

Have you ever noticed yourself saying you’re fine when you’re not, or agreeing with something when deep down you feel differently?

From a young age we begin learning what’s expected of us and which parts of ourselves feel safe to express. Maybe keeping the peace meant holding back our feelings, or being agreeable helped us feel accepted. Over time these patterns can become so ingrained that we hardly notice them anymore. We may even reach a point where we can explain exactly why we do what we do, yet still have a hard time connecting with what we actually feel or need.

Part of finding our authentic selves is becoming curious about the ways we’ve learned to show up in the world. These patterns often developed for a reason, and perhaps they served us well at one point in our lives; but as we grow, it’s worth asking whether they’re still serving us today, or whether there’s room to show up a little more honestly, both with ourselves and with others. 🌿

We all have different parts of ourselves - the part that overthinks, criticizes, people-pleases, avoids, or tries to stay in control. Instead of fighting those parts, therapy can help us understand what they’re trying to protect. 🤎

I’m currently accepting new clients in Las Vegas/Nevada for in-person or telehealth sessions. Low-fee/sliding-scale options are available starting at $30 per session. To book or reach out, visit the link in my bio.

We spend a lot of time trying to think our way through things. Replaying conversations, figuring out what we should do next, trying to understand why we feel the way we do….and sometimes all that thinking just turns into more thinking.

One of the simplest ways to interrupt that loop can be movement. A walk, stretching, lifting something heavy, or stepping outside for ten minutes; whatever feels good to you. This isn’t a way to avoid what you’re feeling, but a way to come back into your body for a little while.

Mental health isn’t only about what happens in our minds. Sometimes taking care of yourself looks a lot more like moving your body than figuring everything out. 🌿

Lately, a lot of grief has been showing up in sessions, and it keeps making me think about how much pressure we put on ourselves to “let go.”

Some things just don’t work like that. Grief doesn’t. Loss doesn’t. Betrayal doesn’t. The parts of us that learned how to survive something usually don’t just disappear because we understand them.

Sometimes healing is less about getting over something and more about noticing that it doesn’t have the same grip on you anymore. It can still matter and can still hurt, but it just doesn’t get to take over the whole story. Moving forward doesn’t require leaving everything behind.

If you’re working through something you’re not quite sure how to carry anymore, you don’t have to figure it out alone. I’m currently accepting new clients in Nevada - book a session or consultation through the link in my bio. 🤍

When anxiety starts spiraling, the sentence usually begins with:
“But what if…?”

What if this happens?
What if they react badly?
What if I make the wrong choice?

And sometimes trying to convince ourselves that the feared thing won’t happen just keeps us stuck in the same argument with our anxiety.

So instead, I like shifting “what if” to “even if.”

Even if the conversation is uncomfortable, I can handle it.
Even if I’m disappointed, I’ll move through it.
Even if I don’t know exactly how things will turn out, I can trust myself to respond when I get there.

It’s a small language shift, but it moves us from trying to control the future to remembering our own capacity.

Sometimes communication struggles aren’t about not caring or not having anything to say. Sometimes it’s more like… you’ve spent so much time trying to keep the peace, be easygoing, or make everyone else happy that you stop checking in with what you actually want.

Then the misunderstandings start. Someone assumes you’ll know what they need. You assume they’ll understand what you meant. Nobody says the thing directly and suddenly a small moment turns into a much bigger one.

A lot of the work in therapy is slowing that down. Not becoming “more emotional,” but getting a little more comfortable saying, “This is what I meant,” “This is what I need,” or even, “I’m not sure, can we talk about it?” Sometimes better communication starts with letting yourself be known a little more clearly.

It’s so easy to confuse adaptation with identity. We tell ourselves, “I’ve always been independent,” “I’m just a perfectionist,” or “I’m the strong one.” And maybe those things are true. But sometimes they started somewhere.

Maybe independence came from learning not to rely too much on other people. Maybe perfectionism grew out of feeling like mistakes weren’t really allowed. Maybe being “low maintenance” meant getting used to keeping your needs to yourself. Sometimes what looks like personality is also a way we learned to move through the world.

That doesn’t make those parts of you any less real. It just makes them worth getting curious about. There’s a difference between who you are and who you learned to be - and therapy can be a place to start exploring that.

I’ve been thinking about how differently we can experience “red flags” in relationships.

For some of us, almost everything can start to feel like one. A change in tone, a difficult question, uncertainty, or even just feeling uncomfortable can set off an internal alarm of something isn’t right, I need to get out.

For others, it can be the complete opposite. We overlook things, rationalize them, hold onto someone’s potential, or keep hoping things will change because losing the relationship feels harder than acknowledging what’s actually happening.

And sometimes, both are forms of protection.

One says, I’ll notice the danger before you have the chance to hurt me.

The other says, I’ll minimize the danger so I don’t have to lose you.

Maybe the work isn’t becoming better at spotting “red flags.” Maybe it’s learning discernment.

Is this discomfort or is this danger?
Is this hope or is this evidence?

Healing can be learning to see our relationships a little more clearly - without immediately running from what feels uncomfortable or explaining away what continues to hurt us.

Sometimes we protect ourselves by leaving too quickly. Sometimes we protect ourselves by staying too long.

The work is learning when it’s safe to stay and when it’s time to go. 🤍

If this is something you’d like to explore in therapy, you can find more information about working with me through the link in my bio.

Sometimes the hardest relationship to repair isn’t the one with someone else - it’s the one with yourself.

I’ve heard clients say:

🔸 “I know the red flags.”
🔸 “I know they’ll keep hurting me.”
🔸 “I knew better, but I didn’t listen to myself.”

At first glance, it can look like a relationship problem.

But often, beneath the relationship pattern is a rupture in self-trust.

One question I ask that can shift the direction of an entire session is:

“Are you keeping your promises to yourself?”

Many people are incredibly reliable for everyone else. They show up. They follow through. They give second, third, and tenth chances.

But when it comes to themselves, they abandon their own needs, dismiss their own boundaries, and silence the quiet voice that says, “This isn’t good for me.”

Healing isn’t only learning to recognize red flags.

It’s learning to trust yourself enough to respond to them.

You are not responsible for another person’s thoughts, feelings, or actions.

You are responsible for how you care for yourself.

And sometimes, choosing your own peace is the bravest promise you’ll ever keep.

🤍 If this resonates, take a moment to ask yourself:

Am I keeping my promises to myself?
