Inspired by feminist films Daisies and Valerie’s Week of Wonders, “Prey’s Prayer” explores a contradiction of prey and hunter, as seen through the eyes of girls hunted by men in the current patriarchal setting.

Are you a white swan or a black swan? A Madonna or a whore? Ingénie or femme fatale? A prude or a slut? Is my existence even worthy without male validation?
“Prey’s Prayer” talks about the violence of a girl’s life. Born into a world where the male gaze exists as a predatory force. A world where we would rather teach our daughters to protect themselves, than to teach our sons not to cause the danger. While boys are allowed to linger in childhood, girls are pushed into early womanhood only to become objects to be consumed, watched, targeted, preserved, kept unspoiled.

The prey is trained to run, but the hunter is never told to put down his weapon.

“Prey’s Prayer” follows a girl forced into a woman’s body. She has been taught to care in a pathologically exaggerated way about her appearance and is mutilated by the stress of presenting herself as a physically attractive object. She can run, hide, adapt, but the hunter has parasited the world she lives in. The male gaze dwells in each one of us, the hunter has become internalized.

“Prey’s Prayer” aims to open a dialogue of how one can free herself from the male gaze. It is both a celebration and mourning of what it takes to be a girl. by @katar1n4b
