This little sweetie started to come into our yard in March of 2021… it took over a month and a lot of coaching for me to convince her to sit with me on the front porch. She has been with us ever since. Feeling poorly, we took her to the Vet today…apparently she is about 14 yrs old. She has arthritis & is being tested for diabetes. The saddest part of her story is at some point in her life she was shot with a pellet gun, the Vet showed us how the pellet is still lodged too close to the spine to remove. I can not believe who would do such a cruel thing to any animal. No wonder she went looking for a new home….she is with us for the duration….even animals have a story to tell. by @kate0248

Happy Heavenly Birthday Mom, wrote this a long time ago for you…dusting it off for your birthday.

Little Mom

She was a child once too
In the herd of six, she was the quiet one
A too short hair cut, compliments of her father
Warm open love, compliments of her mother

Depression era deficits, First Communions,
Graduations, and a best friend named Rose
Decisions were made, off to the city of Philadelphia she would go
A nurse she would become

A war time romance, a war time wedding
No bridal gown for her, a dusty blue dress with smart heeled shoes
And a wide brimmed hat would have to do for her veil
Her favorite uncle saying the official words and blessings on that sunny day

Moving Midwest, a little boy
Moving West, a little girl
Moving East, little twins
Happiness in the quiet mountains of Pennsylvania

A broken heart one cold December day
Precious little girl lost forever
Miles to go before she would find herself again
Many miles she would have to go

Looking backwards yet again, leaving another home and part of herself behind
The sun would break through once more, happiness could take root.
A little girl came along to help mend her heart
Happiness regained

Moving West, another new life to begin
A permanent home, first time and last time
Happy grandmother, seven little hearts to love
She was always at her best at loving little souls

Time passes, husband passes, life moves on
Filling her days of memories past and numbered velvet paintings
Recollections of the good days, the hard days
The last days in quiet solitude, facing sunward with courage

She was strong, steadfast, gentle, silly, and kind
She had an abundant amount of perseverance
She was tender hearted, and brave, although that she would dispute
She is missed. Promise kept Mom

So in 1958 my Dad and I went to the five and dime in Corona, New York to buy a St. Patrick’s Day gift for my Mom. We didn’t have a lot back then, so a small handkerchief was purchased. I remember he gently placed it in his dresser until he could give it to her on one of their favorite holidays. So here we are, over sixty years later….a bit faded, but I can still feel the love. Happy St. Patrick’s Day 🍀 by @kate0248
