This past year I’ve been on a road to realism. It’s taught me to slow down, mix & truly see. A lot more to learn and I’ll never stop. I’m loving it 🥰 🎨

“To Pluck a Flower”
I wanted this painting to be about letting go.

The girl sits alone at the window and gazes out to the brown picked patch of flowers. In that moment there’s a realisation that no matter how many flowers she picks, no matter how many petals are plucked the answer she seeks will be the same.

We can spend our whole lives trying to control the outcome but will that really ever help us or just hinder our ability to move on?

Maybe the answer isn’t what she wants but what she needs and by letting go of the idea that it has to be a certain way creates a sense of liberation and freedom from the self.

“Butterflies are not born butterflies”

When we see a butterfly, they look so carefree and beautiful! That’s the dream right? To feel that. But what it takes to become that butterfly is a different story.

What we see on the outside is a well put together protective shell harbouring the caterpillar. From the outside the cocoon appears cozy and safe but what we don’t see during the metamorphosis stage is that to become the butterfly the caterpillars body dies. It forms a new one. The body has to be broken down and remoulded in order to transform into what it needs to become.

I find that when significant change is afoot in life, sometimes it feels like you’re saying good bye to the old you. I think in some ways we grieve that. The way we ‘used’ to be. It was your identity, the people you knew, who knew you, places, jobs, whatever it is. It’s pretty unnerving because you’re trying to become someone you don’t know yet. You’re taking a chance on yourself.

It takes patience, time, resilience, isolation, sacrifice and hard work. Breaking down the parts of the old self to become a better version of ourselves yesterday ain’t easy. It honestly, most definitely is going to suck, but following the cocooning process, there’s an opportunity for strength, wisdom and above all, freedom. Freedom from the limitations of our minds. It is difficult to see progress when you’re in the dark, so hang in there. There is so much beauty in what you’re doing.

Popped into the Tweed Regional Gallery in Australia where they have a replica house of a Sydney based Artist Margaret Olley.
To think she was able to function in that space is wild.

Had to check out some of the locals too 😊🫶 🐨

Art Gratitude Jar 🫙 📝 🧡

A new year = new goals and new memories.

It’s easy to miss good moments throughout a year which is why I love this little tradition so much. This was introduced by a good friend of mine a few years back and I thought it would be a great way to reflect back on the art journey. 🎨

This way, no matter what happens throughout the year, it will always end on a good note 😉

Bring on 2025 💪🎭🖼️🎨

What are your art goals for 2025?

Why I print Giclée 🧡🖨️

Giclée Prints vs. Standard Prints
1. QUALITY
• Giclée: Uses high-resolution printing (up to 1200 DPI) for sharp, detailed images.
• Standard Print: Lower resolution, which may result in less detail and clarity.
2. COLOR ACCURACY
• Giclée: Uses archival-grade inks that produce rich, true-to-original colors.
• Standard Print: Often uses basic inks, leading to less vibrant and accurate colors.
3. LONGEVITY
• Giclée: Made to last 50–100+ years without fading when cared for properly.
• Standard Print: May fade or discolor within a few years.
4. MATERIALS
• Giclée: Printed on premium materials like fine art paper or canvas.
• Standard Print: Typically uses thinner, lower-quality paper.
5. PURPOSE
• Giclée: Ideal for collectors, galleries, or showcasing fine art.
• Standard Print: Suitable for casual or temporary use.

In essence, giclée prints are a higher-quality, longer-lasting option, perfect for anyone looking to preserve the beauty of a piece of artwork. 😉

“Three pine cones, three stages of growth. 🍂🌲 The journey of change and renewal, inspired by nature’s quiet wisdom. As fall transforms the world around us, these pine cones remind us to embrace our own growth. 🍁
