A new school year for Asher & Zofia!! This year they start 1st & 4th grades and they are excited and ready to take on the year. We’ve added a few more kids to our bus stop crew which is always exciting and Zozo now reigns supreme as the tallest kid on the street 👸🏼 (she’s 9 and 5’2”. Yes, it’s crazy). ✨HELL WEEK 2025✨
I’ve known for a few months that this week was going to be tricky but I wasn’t prepared for the curveballs. This week was my dance team’s first competition as well as Nutcracker week for Zofia— juggling the two schedules took a lot of planning but it was all set. I didn’t know until about a month ago that Mike was going to be out of town for work for this whole week, NOT ideal, and then last Wednesday Asher came down with Flu A and two days later Zofia joined him. 😵‍💫 There were moments (and days) I wasn’t sure if I was going to be able to handle it or that I’d have to to pull out of competition or the Nutcracker but I’m so happy (and proud) to say that we made it! There’s still one more Nutcracker performance to go but at this point Zofia’s got it on lock. There was absolutely NO WAY I would’ve survived the week without help. My parents and my in-laws made this whole week possible and I couldn’t be more grateful! I’m so proud of my kids for enduring the last week with the flu, proud of Zofia for conquering her fears and accomplishing a goal as well as performing with a live orchestra, and I’m so proud of my team for working so hard and really showing up today! I might be ending the week exhausted, bloated, and bleary eyed but I did it. We did it!

Until next year…

Again, this week wouldn’t have been possible without help and I’m so incredibly grateful for our family for stepping up to the plate. 🤍🤍🤍

First day of Kindergarten and 3rd grade for Asher and Zofia! They were both so excited this morning and they were more than ready to get the neighborhood crew together and get on the bus. The Kindergarten trio had some first day jitters but I know they’re well on their way to having so much fun by now. There were no tears at the bus stop but definitely tears from mom at home. Despite all of our anticipation it feels surreal to be here - two big kids in school. 😭 It feels like just a few months ago they were a baby and a toddler. Idk if time really flew but it’s definitely a wild ride. 🧡💚🦊

Last day of second grade for our Zozo!! I am unbelievably proud of everything this girls has overcome this year. She started 2nd grade at a new school only knowing a few kids, she held it together through 6 (SIX!) classroom teachers, and made her first reconciliation and her first communion this year. “I can do hard things” has been a mantra for our family this year. She ended the school year on a high note with a classroom teacher she loves, her two front teeth, and she is READY for third grade! …and maybe the cello? 🎻

Asher graduated from Preschool today! Emotions were high 🥺 but so was the level of excitement. Ash has done so much growing up in the last 2 years and I could not be more grateful that we found The Growing Place. The way these teachers and director have genuinely loved Asher has been so sweet and so special. They’ve created such a warm and accepting environment that lets each kid shine and it’s such a lovely place to be. I’m so proud of our “little baby big boy” and he is PUMPED for kindergarten.
Now we’re gonna have ourselves one hell of a summer! ☀️

This morning we said goodbye to our Lilly. She lived a long life with us and we have so many great memories. If you knew her you’d remember her astounding jumps, her desire for human body heat and lack of awareness regarding personal space, and her fierce protectiveness (sorry to any and all of our neighbors in every one of our Chicago apartments). Mike used to tell everyone that Lilly “eats lightning and shits thunder” and it was true- she was unstoppable. She’s slowed down considerably over the last year or two but really took a turn for the worse over the last few weeks. We knew she was in considerable pain and at constant risk of injury since she couldn’t reliably use the stairs and wouldn’t allow us to pick her up. 😔 Once she stopped trying to climb in our laps and wouldn’t let us touch or pet her we knew it was time. Her last few days we gave her as much attention as she could tolerate and as many eggs, apples, and cottage cheese she could want. She was a wild one but she was our wild one. 🎃 Halloween 2024 🎃
Our not-so-baby girl turned eight today!! As usual today was a whirlwind of festivities and sugar and excitement (and caffeine for mom) and we had a blast. Two school parades and two school parties + presents and treats and zig-zagging through our streets with our neighborhood besties makes all the hot glue burns worth it. 🔥 Asher wrote in his school Halloween book that if/when confronted with a monster he would turn into Ironman and say, “I’m gonna blast you, bruh!” and Zofia called me “girly” so many times today and then told me I was a slay queen and she a slay princess… kids are wild, man…
It must also be said that Asher’s amazing costume was hand-made but not by me. The talented @tracie_in_chicago crafted Jack Skellington’s head with paper-mache and the suit hand was painted and accesorized with felt. Sorta puts my Medusa snake headpiece craftsmanship to shame but I will always aspire to match her creative ability 😘 😘 taken in Saint Charles, Illinois by @kateborawski

Asher’s first day of his last preschool year! 🥺 He is READY for school this year- he’s got a new lunchbox, some leftover cuts and bruises as a badge of a summer well-played, and all sorts of ideas of what to play with his friends at school. I’m fighting feelings of disbelief that we’re already here and choosing to celebrate his exploding personality and vocabulary alongside his remaining love of snuggles and hugs. 🥰 Go get ‘em, Ash!! Zofie is in her ✨Fox Ridge Era✨
New district boundaries means a totally new school this year which is both exciting and a little scary for us all. I’m confident that this little firecracker will have no trouble making friends but we’re still a little anxious going into this year. At least Zofia has her neighborhood besties by her side! As a girl who grew up with almost no family nearby, no big family gatherings or holidays, grandparents that lived hundreds/thousands of miles away and very few cousins (and ZERO female cousins) their fast friendship makes my heart so happy. I love seeing my kids bond with my friend’s kids or our family’s kids - it is so so special. I’m so glad we live close to so much of our family but so happy and thankful that we can plan these visits with our family that lives far away.

Zofia’s last day of 1st grade! 😎✌🏼 The end of this school year is a very bittersweet one. Our school district re-drew boundaries this year and it’s resulted in our neighborhood heading to a new school, Fox Ridge, in the fall. We’re mostly excited but very sad about leaving some friends behind 💔.
Zofie had a great year though! She’s reading like a maniac and her skills as an artist have really blossomed this year! Today we say goodbye to Norton Creek but we are more than ready to unplug and slow down this summer to prepare for our new adventures in the fall. 🦅➡️🦊 taken in Saint Charles, Illinois by @kateborawski

Today is Asher’s last day of school!! This sweet guy went from shy and reserved to loud and excited this year.
