We had our first western dressage show of the year over the weekend! Daytona and I moved up to level 1 and I got my highest dressage scores ever. My trainer also showed Daytona in a level 2 class and she did great! Excited to continue working on our lateral motion and balanced smaller circles. 🏆 by @kateburning

Jean Pawd Van Damme

I knew Jean Pawd was supposed to be mine the moment I laid eyes on him. He was so mad to be on display in a crate and was hunkered down in his litterbox like a grumpy little loaf, occasionally letting a meow out at anyone who would listen. Unfortunately for me, he already had an adopted family lined up. I spoke to Venita, who runs @helping_persian_cats, about what I was looking for in a cat and we talked about my experience fostering kittens, but ultimately I left the adoption event empty handed.

The next week, I was in the lobby of the Alamo Draft House waiting for a rowdy screening of cats with so many of my friends when Venita called to tell me that the adopter they had lined up passed on him due to his age. I said I’d take him immediately.

Jean Pawd was eight when I got him but would turn nine about a month later. He was, until his last breath, a chatty, playful, constantly purring ball of fluff. Six years flew by, especially during the pandemic, a period in which I went from being a dog person to owning three perfect flat-faced kitties. Jean Pawd was the alpha of the house, including the dogs any myself in the rankings.

I will miss him following me around and yowling for treats. I’ll miss falling asleep next to him on my pillow, purring as we both drifted off. I’m grateful he’s free to run around kitty heaven in a body that works as well as it did when he was my only cat. Exotic Shorthairs aren’t exactly bred for longevity afterall. I hope that I don’t keep him earthside for too long.

If you read that all thank you. And even though my heart is broken for now, I implore you all to adopt senior animals. They may be here for a good time, not a long time, but who knows how long any of us are gonna last anyways. ♥️
