August brought a month of organic forms, brightly abstracted and scattered in irregular patterns. I love patterns. I love organic shapes, inspired by pebbles and seaweed and seed pods… all things I collect. For just in case and inspiration.
Some of these little daily studies work and some do not. But that’s okay. I’m happy to share the not so great colour combos with you as well as those that sing. 🌈🌈🌈

Life lately. Painting, drawing, walking, moving giant adult son back home 🥰 and with this came Basil, who used to be the family cat but now Gus’s. Basil has promptly taken over the house, demanding food, attention and a desperate need to go outside (which he is most definitely NOT allowed to do), whilst dispensing head butts, vocal conversations and not so quiet companionship. Bear is happy his Basil friend is home. Weenie Bean is still not quite sure what Basil is 😆 Just in case, I have separated them. If not for safety, more the fact Bear has rediscovered his love of ‘truffle’ hunting in Basil’s litter box 🤢💩 and cleaning up uneaten cat food. Who needs a vacuum when you have a Labrador 😆

New work
“Shadow legs” Acrylic on Canvas
50 x 50cm
Still abstract, but loosening up, leaning into texture and painterly marks over my usual to sharp lines and flat colour. I’m liking it. It feels good to let the paint do its thing instead of fighting and trying to control it.
I love this one so much, I’m going to keep it a while, but if you would like one similar, I’m taking commissions- dm me if you’re interested 😊

Fika this afternoon was homemade GF Jordgubbsmuffins (Swedish Strawberry Muffins) and they were pretty delish. Even got the stamp of approval from the snack queen herself!

July was full of travel, trees, roads and endless hills. There was even beach moments and mountains with snow! Here is July, in 31 small paintings as part of my 365 challenge. They’re a mix of travel friendly quick dry materials including gouache, watercolour and beautiful creamy Prismacolour and Faber Albrect Duirer pencils (two of my fav brands to work with). As I work in layers of gouache and watercolour I use clear gesso to stop bleed through and reactivation of materials.

Even when on the road, I’ve stuck to my guns and painted daily for my painting/drawing year long challenge. Here is what was produced on the road and I’m happy with where these small abstracts are going. And they have gotten slightly smaller - an A5 now down to an A5 square - so that’s almost 15cm x 15cm. I think I decided to go to a square format because it looks neater when displayed in a grid pattern. Colours, forms and layout inspired by what I experienced on my travels, the road (driving, driving and more driving!) the landscapes and that endless sky from Queanbeyan to Melbourne and then from Burnie to Hobart.

Photo (& video) dump from my Tassie trip. Always make sure I have beach time when I get away 🐚💙 And finally checked out the Maritime museum in Hobart… really interesting! Also checked out the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery (TMAG) and saw beautiful shells and an exhibition on Australian Modern Art - beautiful and inspirational.
Beach back in Melbourne and then home to one very happy puppy ❤️
