POSTS STORIES REELS

When I say I read a lot...I mean that I've read over 200 books each of the past three years. My secret is not watching much television.

How many books do you read a year? by @katedunningbooks

When I read something I would genuinely recommend to a friend, I'll post about it here or on my blog. My intention is to advocate for the author's I love and not disparage books that may not be a good fit for me.

Where do you get most of your book recommendations? by @katedunningbooks

I also spend time writing and editing manuscripts, so I may post about author updates, as well.

October Reading Recap:

Only two months left in 2026. Who else is freaking out??? Unless I stumble upon a bunch of fun novellas, there is no way I'm reaching my secondary reading goal and THAT IS OKAY. Except for the annoying voice in my head that is really disappointed.

For October, my favorite read was The Games Gods Play by Abigail Owen because it was like Neon Gods meets Hunger Games (yes, please). My honorable mention, A Shadow in the Reaping (ASITR for those who like to acronym) by Brynne Weaver, was exactly what I imagined a paranormal version of Butcher and Blackbird to be like (only with less serial killers).

I hope you had a great October and felt the love from your books.

QOTD: Are there any particular books you're hoping to finish before December 31st?

Series Spotlight: Darkmore Penitentiary (4 Books) by Caroline Peckham and Susanne Valenti

Rosalie is an alpha werewolf and one of the leaders of the Oscura crime family. She pulls a bank heist, gets caught, and is sent to high security prison…but it’s a part of her plan. Not only will she earn a huge payday for breaking out one of the convicts, she’ll be able to free her teenage crush Roary who is only there because he sacrificed himself on a job gone wrong. Too bad nothing goes according to plan.

Throughout the series Rosalie develops feelings for multiple male alphas and she needs all of them to stay alive and face the real threat that is lurking in Darkmore Penitentiary.

QOTD: Do you like characters who are genuinely nuts but can bring levity to extremely dark situations (like an incubus with a love for lemons who is incapable of following directions)?

A Book Review:
The Barbarian King’s Assassin (Magic and Kings Book 1) by Eve Langlais
- Would Recommend

At the age of nine, Ilyana is rescued from execution at the cost of becoming an assassin’s apprentice. Since then, killing is all she’s known until the barbarian king gets the best of her and she finds herself tied up on the back of a horse. Instead of killing her for the attempt on his life, the king persuades her to put her talents toward protecting him instead which means she’ll be stuck to his side like glue.

The banter between Ilyana and Konstantin was so much fun to read. The diminutive assassin constantly feeling like she had to prove her abilities to the giant northerners to offset her appearance as the king’s mistress due to the fake relationship strategy was hilarious, especially since she had the habit of accidentally getting herself into horrible situations.

QOTD: Would you rather be royalty or an assassin?

QOTD: Do you consider yourself a feminist?

AOTD: It’s not something I think about on a regular basis, but I do enjoy supporting other women working to achieve great things. Wolfpack is the pick-me-up I didn’t even know I needed. The tips on how to re-frame self-talk are AMAZING. I will definitely be teaching these to my daughter as she gets older.

QOTD: Have you ever been to a flower farm? What flowers were there or are your favorite?

AOTD: I haven't, but I have been to a tulip garden and it was gorgeous!

Series Spotlight: Night Huntress (7 Books + Novellas) by Jeaniene Frost

Cat may not know who her father is but she blames him for ruining her mother's life. She started hunting vampires as a teenager hoping one day she might have her vengeance until the night Bones gets the best of her. Instead of killing her, he offers her a deal to train and help him take down a group of "bad" vampires.

Throughout the series poor Cat faces a whole slew of challenges with little itty-bitty stakes like stopping all-out war between vampires and ghouls as she evolves as a character with unprecedented powers.

QOTD: Would you prefer to be a vampire or vampire slayer?

QOTD: What is the longest you have ever kept a secret?

AOTD: I am terrible at keeping little every day secrets and surprises. The only times I manage to keep big ones are when someone would get hurt if the secret got out.

September Reading Recap:

Only three months left in 2026. Yikes! I've reassessed my tbr list for the year and it is going to be TIGHT. I want to jump into some lovely fall themed reads but the books that have been on my kindle since January are screaming at me to be read.

For September, my favorite read was Maggie Moves On by Lucy Score because it made me laugh out loud. My honorable mention, Lovers and Lies by Lark Brennan, transported me to the Virgin Islands, which was a lovely mental vacay.

I hope you had a great September and felt the love from your books.

QOTD: How are you doing against your tbr list for this year?
