Today I said goodbye to my best friend of 16 years. Since his time in the family, he watched me take on my first day of first grade, my last day of high school, two college graduations, my wedding, and everything in between. All while growing up right by my side. I dressed him up, carted him around in baby strollers, colored his fur, tormented him with hair bows, and he sat through it all while seemingly having the time of his life. Although 16 years isn’t long enough, I am thankful for the times that I have had with him and will cherish them forever. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that my soulmate in dog form, who I named at 7 years old, held the name that is the same as my husband’s.
