After last season came to a close, I immediately started to think about what direction I wanted to go in for this team. With “Birds” being so successful, and even more meaningful to the kids I felt an immense amount of pressure to (at the very least) create something that could be as meaningful and impactful for the season ahead. I must’ve shifted between five or six different ideas before I was certain I landed on what I wanted to do…or so I thought Almost 2 months into rehearsals I completely scrapped what I had been working on because it just didn’t feel right. I was apprehensive about completely changing directions. I was also incredibly nervous because the concept of this dance was more than just the dance itself, it was about carrying a legacy that feels too big for me to pass on just by myself, but I am so happy I made the choice I did.“Mr. Bojangles” will forever be so important to me. Being able to set something so conceptual while also being able to educate my students on a deeper level was one of the most impactful experiences in my dance career. I don’t think any dance that could be created to this song could do full justice to Bill “Bojangles” Robinson himself, but I am proud of my kids for their commitment to the execution of this piece.At the end of the year, my students surprised me with a framed picture of them and their handwritten names, alongside a picture of Bill “Bojangles” Robinson and a clip of his signature. I am still stunned, and speechless and have zero words to describe how receiving this makes me feel. Whenever I look at that frame I get emotional thinking of how important this year and this dance has been to all of us (and I probably always will). Thank yous are not enough to my students (and Aaron for helping put this together). You will never know how meaningful these last 2 years have been to me. Watching you learn and grow every week in tap class, and bringing my unconventional ideas to life has brought me so much joy, and I couldn’t be prouder of each and every one of you for putting in the commitment to make something so special. What a wonderful year it has been teaching tap over at @norwalkdance!!! It has been a privilege to help cultivate growth in these dancers’ technique, skill, dedication, and musicianship (all while having a great time…OF COURSE). Thank you to @melissajf24 @morganjeanf for reaching out and giving me the opportunity to work with your students. It is indescribable how full circle this all feels since meeting eachother many moons ago in the competition circuit. It has been a great year working alongside you!!@leiny.sofia @emmatschilling …where do I even start😝 Thank you for bringing alllllllll the energy and making my Tuesdays so bright. Each of you fill my heart with so much love and laughter. I have so much appreciation for you both!!Most importantly MY STUDENTS!!! Thank you for coming in this year ready to learn and grow. I have loved being a part of your experience here at Norwalk. Remember to stay hungry and always keep the love of dance in your hearts. It was a struggle for a little bit but we powered through! Another year in the books🫶🏻This past year has opened up a new chapter for me. One that has been filled with learning, laughter, and love. I have been blessed with the opportunity to do what I do, to work with such amazing students, families, and fellow teachers. I am infinitely grateful to be healthy, and come back to something I once thought I’d never be able to. And most importantly I am inspired by the positive spaces I am so lucky to enter every day, where even the worst days can be turned around into the best ones. Thank you to everyone who has made this year so great. If you would’ve asked me three years ago what my life would’ve looked like today this would not have been the answer but it was the dream, and to say that I am living out my dream makes me the luckiest person in the world🍀🫶🏻✨ by @katelynwilliamsdance
