“They all had a way out (home sweet home)”, velvet, chiffon, photographs, paper, and acrylic paint, 46” x 38”Lately I’ve been drawn back to an older practice of using fabric and collage to make narrative paintings. After a recent artist talk by Bo Bartlett during which he spoke about trusting the creative urge, I decided to get curious and lean into it. The process felt like visiting an old friend I haven’t seen in three years—nostalgic, familiar, yet unexpectedly new. A full-circle return to painting. Home sweet home. 💙 by @katemccammon

My first ultramarathon ✅ The Dirty German 50k (31 miles) this past weekend and still taking it in 🍃 One of the hardest things I’ve ever done - an experience that had me humbled, challenged, and moved. The trail itself - at times you felt like a beast, a beautiful monster to conquer. The trail running community - the sincerity of the passing “Good work” and “You’re doing great” were felt to the core. It was a beautiful “we’re all in this together” feeling. Around four hours in, I wasn’t sure I’d be able to finish - everything hurt physically and mentally to a new degree - but that’s when I leaned on my friends, who uplifted me through encouraging messages, who magically appeared with hugs when I needed it most, and who ran the final strides along with me - cheering with every step. You guys saved my race (along with the soda at the aid stations) and pushed me to the finish. I owe this to you 🫶✨A shoutout to LiAnn @leenofthebeans , who was my inspiration for expanding my running journey to an ultra. During the trail’s most technical paths and moments of swift footwork, I reminded myself to be fearless like her - an amazing, resilient spirit who sees my running passion the way I do, “a way of making beauty out of grief.” 🙏Thanks, Dirty German, for bringing me one of the best training cycles I’ve ever had, for showing me such a humbling perspective and new mentality on running, and for giving me an embrace by my running community at the end that I’ll always remember.
