“Beastro,” the game I’ve been working on for the past few years at Timberline releases this week! This game was a labor of love and our little dev team put a lot into making the charmingly weird world in this cozy little cooking deck builder come to life. In the coming months I’ll be sharing more work that went into this project. In the meantime, please wishlist Beastro! Another painting completed during the @frank_bette_center Plein Air Paintout. This was from the off island day spent painting in San Francisco with @kmgadway. 90”x32” Mendocino Triptych - Matte Acrylic and Acrylic Gouache. This was a commission I finished last year that pushed me to paint larger than I ever had before and translate my style at scale. The panels needed to tile in order to be duplicated and wrapped around a cylinder, so the panels can be arranged in varying order, which presented a fun compositional challenge. Thank you to Art Director @draweverywhere_studios for the opportunity and guidance and fellow artist @duttonart (his painting is on slide 5!) for the encouragement. I learned so much from the process: took a camping trip to research the various plant life and coast in Mendocino, the patience and commitment to completing such a large piece, and the opportunity to abstract various elements at such a large scale. Thank you @frank_bette_center and @clarkmitchellpainter for selecting “Crab Cove” for Honorable Mention of the Alameda Award. This was my first painting of the week, and my first juried paintout, so I am incredibly honored that it was chosen!

What a thrill it’s been to participate in the Frank Bette Plein Air Paintout this year! This past week, 40 artists painted their hearts out in Alameda for 5 very full days. Join us Saturday, August 1 from 10-5 at Alameda South Shore Center for the grand finale, an exhibition of everyone’s work for sale to the public.

I completed 7 finished pieces this week that I’ll have for sale, as well as a collection of previous gouache paintings. The painting shown here, “Lafayette Redwoods” was completed for the Quick Draw event and ended up being one of my favorites. It is 6x12” acrylic gouache on wood panel, completed in just over 2 hours. taken in Frank Bette Center for the Arts by @katerado

In @beastrothegame, you play as Panko, a talented young chef who runs the local eatery in town. Like many aspects of the development of Beastro, Panko’s visual design was a team effort and went through several iterations before coming to life. Panko’s story and narrative journey was crafted by @lindseyrostal, concept art and painterly textures from @aranyaksha, concepts and revisions along the way from myself, 3d explorations and the final in game model from @brainsample3d, and animations to bring him to life from Nathan Fulton, @efeemachado and @zbeevr. Just like in the world of Beastro, some things take a village to accomplish! And panko is a great example of that collaboration from our team at Timberline. by @katerado
