Super happy to be on the cover of June’s edition of Which Gardening magazine alongside the fantastic horticultural photographer @jonathanbuckleyphotography .
The article features planting ideas using roses and herbaceous perennials and I’ve sneaked in a few annuals on some of the combinations.
Such a fantastic opportunity to do this article , huge thanks to Editor Ceri Thomas 💚

Your three favourites of 2025.
Well, I was very lucky to received lots of wool for Christmas ,Swedish socks and a jumper , so I’m sitting here all super cosy , trying to knit and reflecting on the gardening year just gone .
Here are your favourite 3 photos in order and for the first time the annual DA roses list has been over taken . The 60’s crazy , hippy bright mash up won your favourite and this time, mine too 🌱
I’ve just remembered the dahlia order goes in on New Year’s Day , let’s see what’s new this year .
Right back to my knotty , gappy knitting 🧶

So the big question is Yay or Nay , do you want a planting plan for this colour scheme ? I say planting plans very loosely, It will be a Kate special attempt at drawing as per the last one ? Maybe a video if my witterings go on for too long trying to write it down ? 🌸

We call this bed Koko because of the Koko Loko rose that was once planted in it . I have a love / hate relationship with this rose , I love it , it hates me ! So now they have been removed from the bed and put into pots to grow into strong healthy plants rather than the skinny little rose they once were. For a really good photo of this rose see @nicoleatcherrygarden post yesterday . Lisa
@homesteadflowers.uk and Sonia and I have spent a couple of years trying different plants to get this scheme to work and this year it’s been so beautiful and the bees 🐝 are loving the salvias and foxgloves . Do zoom in for the names .
Have a good evening , I’m doing absolutely nothing for a change ! ……… Update …….. the plan and videos are now on my feed 💜
Please note Foxgloves ( Digitalis) are poisonous

I’ve had requests saying I haven’t posted what tulips we’re planting , super sorry and here are the first two and more to follow on Thursday.
Purple Shades
Top left across are
Bleu Aimable, Blue Spectacle, Black Parrot, Newcastle, Narcissus Thalia, Flaming Flag, Purple Crystal, Double Surprise and Peggy Wonder . I would have loved to have added Heritage but at £5.00 a bulb and the risk of squirrels munching it , it wasn’t meant to be .
The second photo
Copper and purple/ plums
Mocha Ruffle , Cocoa Blush , Amaru, Gorilla, Vovos, Merlot, Velvet Truffle and Blue Diamond.

The photos and the bulbs are from @sarahravensgarden @peter_nyssen and @farmergracy

We’ve been cutting back the cut flower beds today, huge sadness but tulips need to go in and everything had toppled . Day off tomorrow, still no internet !

Apologies for the lack of posts, we haven’t had any internet at home for two weeks. Open Reach have told us that they cut the wrong wire ?! Anyway I’m posting from work and it’s all looking full of autumn here . Some beds are almost over, like the cut flower beds but others such as our September beds are still going strong . Particularly the dahlias Danique, Preference , Copper Boy and Princess Nadine .
I’ve laid out in the photos a few things that are looking good now. Hopefully I’ll be back to posting normally soon 🌱

Loving these late September colours . Sonia my co gardener put the gorgeous dahlia La Belle Epoque with Ageratum Red Sea together and it all started from there . The tiny dahlia Frans Kafka is a gem. We tried a bit of Achillea ‘Salmon Beauty’ with the mix after the flat lay and loved the way it lifted the colours . They’re definitely going to be made into a bed next year .
I’ve been away from two weeks in Scotland , such an incredible holiday and a bit of an IG break .
Good to be back in the manor garden seeing all the changes

I think probably my best plant purchase of 2026 Pelargonium ‘ Madame Auguste Nonin ‘ what a beauty . I bought one from Picton Castle in Pembrokeshire, it was a whopper of a plant and enjoyed the journey home in the campervan .
It’s the most rosy red, pink and is a wonderful clash with orange calendula and perfect for anyone who loves the bright colours . It’s a huge pelargonium. I’ve now taken lots of cuttings to share it with. On another note if you’re in Pembrokeshire especially in May, Picton Castle garden is a wonderful visit especially for families .
Well I’m pottering in my garden today, the grass is back to being green again and the herbaceous plants are greening up again, just loving this time of the year 💚

I love this rose so much , I’ve mentioned it before but it’s flowering at the moment and looking just so beautiful. This is ‘A Fond Farewell’ by Dicksons Roses, bred for the retirement of Colin Dickson . It’s a true beauty and a strong grower in my semi shaded , rock solid , clay bed .
It also smells amazing , a real old fashioned rose scent . The back of the petals are the most gorgeous soft lilac pink .
They’re some mighty iffy photos of the petal colour on line but this is what it is like picked from my garden . The second photo shows it in early morning light and the others evening light .
The last photo I’ve put it with Dahlia ‘Kick Off’ because I just love the colours together .🌱

For the first time ever I decided I couldn’t keep up with my garden and work at the manor garden , so this summer I’ve let my garden go , the heat obviously helped with this decision , we decided to neglect the housework and just enjoy our summer and it’s been so amazing . Slightly embarrassing when a friend turned up at my house the other day and wanted to see the garden so I took them down the pub instead !
It has made me think about what size garden I want in future , maybe smaller , I can’t believe I’m saying this ! 💚

Dahlia of total loveliness Edith Jones . It’s only doing well in my garden where others have gone crispy because it’s planted on an old bath tub . Edith is an old favourite, it’s survived a good few years now.
Who doesn’t love a collarette.
I’ve got a few collarettes , grown from seed from Floret flowers . One just shouts Lemon Meringue pie . They’re in my clay garden so they’ll either come back after a bit of rain or get swallowed up in the cracks ( clay gardeners will understand !)
I’ve had a quiet week on here again, what’s going on ! Enjoy your weekend 🌸

Favourite dahlias of 2026 , Sissinghurst being the absolute winner , it’s a stunner for its colour changing abilities and its growing strength, it’s so different to the rest .
I’ve also really loved Jennifer Mary Ellen for it’s sumptuous colour and dark leaves , one other is Glossy Carletta ( 3rd photo) I didn’t have one in flower to add to the flat lay .
We returned to some old favourites this year , Wine Eyed Jill being one of them and so glad we did . Also the honka’s ( not on here ) Cornel Brons and Juliet
We order our dahlias form Sarah Raven , Rose Cottage, Gager and Peter Nyssen
Happy weekend , my garden is crispy and I’m losing plants by the minute , so I’m off camping !

Antique yellows and blush . The yellows remind me of the fields at the moment with an end of day sunlight . I love these colours and I love sunflower Astra Rose , it’s so different to the rest . The rose A Fond Farewell is by Dickson Roses and is an absolute treasure of a rose with interesting shades of buff, sandy yellow and blush.
It’s a stunner of an evening , I’m off to see the sunset set and fingers crossed the sunrise ☀️🌞☀️
Happy weekend
