We were liars
Author: E. Lockhart
Page number: 250
Start: June 7th
Finish: June 8th
Rate: 10/10

Quotes
“Be a little kinder than you have to”

“down to rocky rocky bottom, and I can see the base of Beechwood Island and my arms and legs feel numb but my fingers are cold. Slices of seaweed go past as I fall. And then I am up again, and breathing, And Clairmont is burning.”

“and we Liars were alone on the island,
the four of us did what we were afraid to do. We burned not a home, but a symbol.
We burned a symbol to the ground”

“It is good to be loved, even though it will not last.”

“She walks over, kisses me on the cheek, and says, ‘Be a little kinder than you have to, Cady, and things will be all right.’ ‘And never eat anything bigger than your ass!’ yells Johnny. He gives me a quick hug and kicks off his shoes. The two of them wade into the sea.”

“Here I am frozen, where I deserve to burn”

Thoughts
PLOT TWIST ending is not what I was thinking and make me have to rethink so much of the book. Although it was a sad twist I honestly really enjoyed it I would definitely re-read it knowing what information is told at the end of the book! I do not blame Cady or any of the kids for the events that take place but put minor blame on the adults for putting so much pressure on their children.

Quotes
“They say it doesn’t hurt when you die. Dying is easy, comedy is hard.”

“I cry for the little girl who kept her promise and the sixteen-year-old who didn’t understand why her old friend rejected her. I cry for the sophomore who got locked in the bathroom and the ten-year-old who didn’t get invited to any sleepover parties.”

“shame is a funny thing. Right now, I can’t quite remember why I wanted to keep my claustrophobia a secret from my classmates here.”

Thoughts
This book was a lot better than I thought it would be! I had thrifted this book for a dollar so I didn’t have much expectations going into it, but I am so glad I grabbed it. Took me a long time to read because it was the end of senior year lol. I really love how we find out that it’s not a real mystery how she died rather why she died. I did in fact cry while reading the last 70 pages but it genuinely is such a good book and shows how everyone is going though their own internal battles even people that seem perfect need help.

The diary of a young girl
Start: April 12th
Finished: April 28th
Rate: 10/10
Quotes

“Dear kitty”

“I don't think of all the misery, but of the beauty that still remains”

“How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment before starting to improve the world”

“It’s really a wonder that I haven't dropped all my ideals, because they seem so absurd and impossible to carry out. Yet I keep them, because in spite of everything, I still believe that people are really good at heart.”

Thoughts
I genuinely really enjoyed this book and loved reading Anne’s point of view. Anne was a very optimistic girl and genuinely always tried her best to see the positive. I think this book is very important because it shows how people, just like us, had to go through such horrible events due to other peoples hatred. The franks, and all of the people who were targeted in the holocaust, just wanted to live their lives in peace. Their futures were taken from them due to other people not being able to take blame for their own failures.
