Tonight is the night! 🎸 Oct 26 | SGT. SPLENDOR feat. Kate Vargas & Eric McFadden w/ Norwood Fisher, Stephen Perkins, Wally Ingram + special guests Sgt. Splendor strips their carnivalesque alt-rock down to something raw and spellbinding: roots-noir, desert blues, and stomp-and-holler fireside tales. Kate Vargas brings the haunting, Tom Waits-esque storytelling. Eric McFadden (George Clinton, Eric Burdon) brings the Spanish-tinged fretboard fireworks. All it takes is a voice, a guitar, and a spark. Expect songs from Death Of The Hoochie Koo and Isotopia, plus a few friends who might wander onstage. 🔥 Get tickets at themintla.com or via the link in our bio! sgtsplendor.com by @katevargasmusic
MON 10/26: Sgt. Splendor feat. Kate Vargas & Eric McFadden 🌵 Sgt. Splendor’s carnivalesque alt-rock goes bare-bones: just voice, guitar, and a whole lot of spark. Kate Vargas spins haunting, Tom Waits-style tales, and Eric McFadden (George Clinton, Eric Burdon) fires back with flamenco-tinged fretwork. Think swampy Americana, junkyard folk, and desert blues. Sitting in: Norwood Fisher of Fishbone and Stephen Perkins of Jane’s Addiction and Porno for Pyros, plus more special guests! 🎸 🎟️ Grab tickets at themintla.com or the link in bio by @katevargasmusic

I’ve had the distinct privilege of hearing Joan Baez do a piece of this song every weekend for the past couple months. It’s been embedded in my daily thoughts recently. Last night, after seeing video of our own president suggesting taking out millions of people would be a small price to pay, I stepped into this song and let it rock me for hours. This suggestion from a well-established monster didn’t come as a surprise. It was the cheers from the crowd that broke me. I’ve had another distinct privilege. I’ve had the privilege of moving through the world with the belief that there is an inherent goodness. To completely abandon that belief isn’t an option for me. But there is unimaginable cruelty too. There’s always been both. And those two thoughts are difficult to hold at the same time. I’m still figuring that out. I do, however, see the goodness in a different light. It’s choosing that part of ourselves when there are forces actively trying to stamp it out. And that’s mighty in its own right. “A Hard Rain’s A-Gonna Fall” by Bob Dylan by @katevargasmusic
A true honor and pleasure to work with the legendary Joan Baez at the @thesoileddove in Alameda, CA Joan is a national treasure and righteous human, who after more than six decades, continues to give of herself in the fight against tyranny, injustice, and inhumanity. Her impact and influence on our culture in regards to music, art and activism cannot be overstated. Thank you, @joancbaezofficial see you at the circus! Photo 1: @j.gman by @katevargasmusic
