๐ŸƒWe can start liking something simply because weโ€™ve encountered it before๐Ÿƒ โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€” Psychologists call this the mere-exposure effect, where repeated exposure to something can increase our familiarity with it, and under certain conditions, our liking for it. . Sometimes we think we like something because there is something extraordinary about it. But psychology tells us something surprisingly simple: familiarity itself can influence what we like. . The more often we encounter something, the more familiar it can become, and familiarity can quietly make it feel more comfortable, more recognizable, even more appealing. . Perhaps that is part of why a song grows on us. Why a neighbourhood begins to feel like home. Why a face we once barely noticed can eventually become the face we look for in a crowded room. Or why I always come back to this particular hotel when staying in Banff. Even more, why I always request this specific room with this specific view. . Sometimes, what feels like โ€œI just like itโ€ has a little history and meaning behind it. Itโ€™s got the mere-exposure effect. Thatโ€™s all. . A collection of various days staying at Banff Park Lodge hotel for over two and a half weeks over various bookings. . Oh and since itโ€™s October 31st today. ๐ŸƒThe seven GREAT wonders of the world: 1. To see 2. To hear 3. To touch 4. To taste 5. To feel 6. To laugh 7. and to LOVE๐Ÿƒ โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€” The seven great wonders of the world cannot be bought, collected, or measured in money. They are the simple miracles of being alive: to see the beauty around us, to hear natureโ€™s song, to touch, to taste, to feel, to laugh, and above all, to love. . Standing before a waterfall like Athabasca Falls, watching the water dance and hearing its endless roar, in its postcard-like environment reminds me that some of lifeโ€™s greatest treasures are already within our reach. . Sometimes, we simply need to pause long enough to notice what has been there all along. . Maybe the greatest wonder isnโ€™t what we can afford, but what we are fortunate enough to experience. And if we can still see beauty, feel joy, share laughter, and give love, we are already richer than we sometimes realize. Thatโ€™s all. . #athabascafalls #postcardsfromnature #waterfall #wondersoftheword #visualstoryteller by @katfuz
๐ŸƒLet us keep only the beautiful and fragrant things in our hearts. For in the end, we become like the landscapes we have carried within us๐Ÿƒ โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€” The deepest kind of wisdom is knowing what deserves to remain in our hearts - and what we must learn to release. . Let us hold close the moments that feel like autumn sunlight through the trees: quiet days; unexpected kindness; shared laughter; and the beauty that asks nothing of us but to be present. . Because whatever we carry within us, we eventually begin to resemble. . So let us fill our inner landscapes with golden leaves, open skies, gentle light, and memories that still carry the fragrance of rain and Earth. . Let us make room for beauty, even when life gives us reasons to dwell on what has broken us. For when the seasons change and the world grows colder, it is the beauty we have gathered within that can still keep us warm. . In the end, we become more than the life we have lived - we become the landscapes we have chosen to carry with us. Thatโ€™s all. . #goldenhour #naturephotography #natureportrait #autumn #photography by @katfuz
๐ŸƒOn Earth, there is no heaven, but there are pieces of it๐Ÿƒ โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€” Mayhap Heaven-on-Earth is closer than you think. Perhaps, it is made of a thousand little wonders waiting to be discovered along the way. . It lives in turquoise waters hidden among mountains; in forests that whisper in the wind; in meadow, valleys and in rolling hills; in quiet places where the world seems to pause just long enough for us to breathe. . Sometimes, we travel thousands of miles to find these treasures; other times, we take on kilometers of treacherous hikes, and every now and then, they are waiting just beyond the familiar roads we take every day. We only need to slow down, look a little closer, and allow curiosity to lead us somewhere new. . For every person, these pieces of heaven may look different - a secluded lake, a winding trail, a breathtaking sunrise, or a simple moment of stillness beneath the trees or on a corn field. . I found some of my pieces of heaven at Grassi Lakes in the Kananaskis country where the tranquility here at the Upper Lakes was almost eerie-peaceful, and water seemed almost too beautiful to be real. . Now, I wonder what hidden pieces-of-heaven-on-Earth have you discovered lately or which of the thousand little wonders are waiting for you to discover? . Get here between 11:30am-2:00pm for the sun rays to kiss the lakes and reveal the bright emerald colors. Thatโ€™s all. ๐Ÿ“Upper Grassi Lakes. I will post more series from the Lower Lakes later on. . #piecesofheaven #heavenonearth #grassilakes #hiddengems #natureheals by @katfuz
๐ŸƒEven the trees have secrets, revealed only when the seasons change๐Ÿƒ โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€” Have you ever wondered why some trees turn brilliant shades of gold, orange, and red in autumn, while others remain green? . As daylight decreases, trees gradually break down chlorophyll, the green pigment essential for photosynthesis, revealing yellow and orange pigments called carotenoids. Some trees also produce red and purple pigments called anthocyanins, creating autumnโ€™s spectacular palette. . But hereโ€™s a fascinating exception: the larch, a conifer that grows needles like a pine tree, turns golden yellow in autumn and then sheds all its needles! Unlike most conifers, which retain their needles for several years, larches are deciduous and grow fresh needles each spring. . This seasonal transformation is part of how the tree prepares for winter, with shorter days and cooler temperatures helping trigger the process. . Did you know a tree with needles could turn golden and stand completely bare in winter? . Did you know series continued. Thatโ€™s all. . #treestagram #trees #autumn #autumnvibes #didyouknow by @katfuz
๐ŸƒMaybe enough looks like a slow morning or an afternoon, a full stomach, a safe place, someone kind, and nowhere you urgently need to be. Maybe enough has always been this quiet๐Ÿƒ โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€” Maybe enough is a quiet walk beneath autumn skies, or canoeing in โ€˜sync with the slow pace of the breathing natural world around you. . Maybe enough is listening to the sound of passing river or the lake standing still beside you, mirroring its landscape through its glass-like water. . Maybe enough is this landscape that asks nothing from you except to notice it. . Nature has a beautiful way of reminding us that we donโ€™t always need to be moving toward something; sometimes, simply being there is enough. Especially in the fall, there is something humbling about watching the world slow down, change colour, and let go without rushing the process. Maybe being present is its own kind of richness - the kind found in still water, golden leaves, mountain air, and a moment with nowhere else to be. . Maybe enough has never been about having more, but about being still long enough to realize how much is already here. . Maybe right now, this is enough to feel full. ๐ŸƒSomewhere between what science can measure and what the heart can feel, life leaves room for wonder๐Ÿƒ โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€” Did you know? Every heartbeat creates a tiny magnetic field that extends beyond your body - something scientists can actually measure outside the human body. . This phenomenon is called a magnetocardiography, and it has been measured and studied in scientific research since the 1960s. ๏ฟผ . Think about that for a moment. Something as quiet and ordinary as a heartbeat creates a field that reaches into the world around us. . Life is full of beautiful things we cannot see, but that doesnโ€™t mean they arenโ€™t real. Same is true of true of kindness, love, and the little moments that make being human so extraordinary. Not everything meaningful needs to be visible to exist. . Some of the most beautiful things in life cannot be seen, only felt - like the quiet power of a heartbeat, or the hope of a rainbow after the rain. Luckily though, the rainbow showed its love to us, and like the heartbeat, it created a field of wonder reaching into the habitat around me. . Snow is coming, but donโ€™t mind me, Iโ€™m a bit late - and just starting with my fall posts now. . For now, I am measuring heartbeats of the rainbow and the world around me. ๐ŸƒAutumn whispers lead by leaf, give love to others. And Fall into Peace๐Ÿƒ ~ Angie Weiland-Crosby โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€” There is something quietly fascinating about autumn: as the days grow shorter, our brains actually receive a different signal from the world around us. . Scientists have found seasonal changes in parts of the human serotonin system, a neurotransmitter system involved in mood and many other functions. Light also helps regulate our circadian clock, connecting the changing seasons with processes involving sleep, hormones and emotional regulation. . So maybe there is a biological reason that the changing light of autumn can feel different - not necessarily sad, not necessarily better, just ditterent. Satisfied. And most importantly, peaceful. . And maybe that is why this season can make us slow down, notice the changing light a little more, and the changing leaves and make us strangely aware of the passing of time. . The leaves are changing outside us, but our internal bodies and minds are quietly noticing the season, too. We donโ€™t fight back, we embrace the changes, the-slow-and-the-sudden ones. . A very late afternoon, far from human noise, for some deep internal autumnal peace and satisfaction. . #autumn #sharecango #slowtravel #parkscanada #ohcanada๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฆ ๐Ÿ“Herbert Lake by @katfuz
๐ŸƒReading is breathing in; writing is breathing out๐Ÿƒ โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€” There are words we read that do more than pass before our eyes - they find a quiet place within us and stay. They awaken memories, stir questions, touch wounds, or give a name to feelings we could never quite explain. . And maybe that is why we write. Because sometimes the heart becomes too full to remain silent. . We breathe in the voices of others through their stories, and somewhere along the way, those words become a part of our own story. . Then we breathe out - not simply words, but pieces of ourselves, shaped by everything we have felt, learned, and carried. . In this sense, maybe that is the beautiful rhythm of being human: we read to discover the world, and we write to leave a little of ourselves in it. . Maybe, that is why I writeโ€ฆ Thatโ€™s all. . #thewrittenword #shewrites #visualstoryteller #streetsoftoronto #moodygrams by @katfuz
๐ŸƒShame must change sides๐Ÿƒ~ Gisรจle Pelicot โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”- These four words are so powerful - they ask us to take shame from the shoulders of those who were harmed and return it to those who caused the harm. . Too many survivors of se*xual violence, domestic violence, and abuse and more have remained silent because they fear disbelief, judgment, damaged reputations, broken relationships, or the endless questions of: โ€œWhy didnโ€™t you leave?โ€ โ€œWhy didnโ€™t you fight?โ€ โ€œWhy didnโ€™t you speak sooner?โ€ . We have too often examined the victimโ€™s choices while forgetting the only choice that truly matters: the choice of the person who committed the harm. . Pelicotโ€™s words echo through the many women who are finding the courage to speak about se*xual abuse and the transfer of moral responsibility from the victim to the perpetrator. And perhaps this is the change we need - not merely telling survivors, โ€œYou have nothing to be ashamed ofโ€ but changing the direction of shame itself. . The person who was violated should not have to hide; the person(s) who violated them should carry the moral weight of what they chose to do. And until society stops blaming, doubting, silencing, or protecting reputations at the expense of survivors, we have not truly changed sides. . Shame was never theirs to carry. . And if these words touch something you have or-someone-you-know has carried quietly for years, please know this: you are not alone, and there is profound power in realizing that what happened to you was never your shame to begin with. . Sometimes a few words can do more than explain - they can give someone permission to see their own story ditterently ๐Ÿ™. โ€œLa honte doit changer de campโ€œ - โ€œShame must change sidesโ€. ๐ŸƒWe only see what we look at. To look is an act of choice๐Ÿƒ ~ John Berger โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€” In the quiet-gigantic-colorful rooms of the AGO gallery, I found myself watching the watchers. Each person stood before a painting, suspended for a moment in a world I could not enter. . โ€œSeeing comes before wordsโ€ Berger wrote, and perhaps some things are meant to remain there - in that wordless space between the eyes and the heart. . We can stand before the same image and yet see entirely different worlds, shaped by memories, questions, longing, and things left unsaid. . Photographing these fleeting encounters, I wondered what invisible conversation was taking place between the person and the art. The painting was there for everyone to see, but the experience belonged only to the person standing before it. . And I am still perplexed with that question: what does a person see when nobody can see what they are seeing? Thatโ€™s all. . #artgalleryofontario #art #peoplewatching #visualstoryteller #whatdoyousee by @katfuz
