Getting ready for @hudsonvalleypotterytour Oct 18 & 19. I will be at @kathyerteman studio in Stone Ridge, NY. @hiroehanazono will join us this year. I will be bringing soda fired work from summer firings @theokidokistudio, surprise crystals, bowls and mugs that don’t usually make it to the website, and as much from these piles as I can grind and glaze. We are also approaching peak leaf 🍁 Please come! by @kathyerteman

There are only a few days left to visit the eclectic teapot collection of the Kamms!

Some of the artists in the collection push the boundaries of what can be called or even identified as a teapot, running the gamut of abstraction. Some of the pieces still readily refer to pot, handle, spout and lid where others make slippery, gestural allusions to the very same elements.

The Kamms purchased Tony Marsh’s deconstructed assemblage, which was created as a teaching demo piece, to help fund student travel at California State University, Long Beach, where Marsh helmed the ceramics program.

Bennet Bean says, “These are teapots about the idea of the teapot… My teapots behave a bit like a sonnet—they have a wonderful structure that will support almost any idea.”

The reductive quality in Charles Cobb’s meticulously crafted form feels like an exercise in geometry.

About her work, Kathy Erteman states: “The essence of my work is minimal form activated by its surface treatment. I embrace a modernist aesthetic and employ a reductive approach to formal composition, aiming to eliminate unnecessary details to arrive at an articulate vessel form, one that could work at any scale, and allows for texture and color to become integrated within.”
