2021 was the hardest year of my life. I went through things that I never thought I would have to go through in my life. On September 9, 2021 I was admitted to Children’s Mercy Hospital for Bradycardia (extremely low heart rate) all because of my struggle with my eating disorder. From that day, I spent 2 weeks in the hospital on complete bed rest and having all of my freedom taken away from me. I remember asking my mom if I could’ve died if I never got the help I need and she told me yes. I wanted to share my journey because I know a lot of people struggle with eating disorders and I want you to know that you are never alone and it does get better. When I chose recovery, I chose to get MY life back and it was the best decision I’ve ever made. Everyday is not perfect, but the hard days just make me stronger.

I went back and forth from deciding to share my journey publicly, but then I remembered seeing someone else’s journey and how much it helped me feel less alone. I hope that this could help at least one person struggling and to let you know that you can get through this and you will not regret it.

Lastly, I want to thank my amazing support system. I wouldn’t have been able to get through this without my amazing family, friends, and doctors. They truly have made the hardest days feel less heavy and have given me that extra boost of hope when I need it.

In conclusion, 2021 was the hardest year of my life, but it has made me the strongest version of myself. This journey has brought me so many amazing memories and I regained my life back. I want to end with a quote someone special in my life told me… “The climb to the top of the mountain will be long and challenging, but the view at the top will be amazing and beautiful.” I’m still climbing that mountain, but that just means I’m getting closer to the view at the top.
